ocd/adhd

have a 5 year old son (only child) who was diagnosed with adhd and placed on adderal 5 mg.  it has not worked so we have taken him off.  he has also been diagnosed with ocd for constantly peeling the skin off his thumbs/fingers and now starting on his toes.  the dr wants to place him on zoloft to treat the ocd.  will this help with the adhd in school??  He is very smart and ahead of his class but cannot wait his turn and blurts, etc.  Very active and constantly moving.  We were also told he may have asbergers??  He loves video games and tv but does not play with toys.  He is very loving and tender not a discipline issue at home, church or school.  Please help!!!  Do we medicate for the ocd?  Do we medicate for adhd and ocd??  Which first??? Or do we NOT medicate at all.  We do not want to medicate but also don't want him to suffer at school and other places he is struggling with the anxiety.  PLEASE HELP.

We began the Zoloft Friday night as prescribed after he peeled the skin off his toe and it bled.  As for the strep, he had it when he was 1 yr old and was treated.  Dr ordered strep test 2 weeks ago and it came back positive, which is puzzling the dr and us.  He has not even been sick with a cold or runny nose.  I think we were just hoping that it would all just go away.  Not REALITY though and we get that.  We just want the best care for him and think his dr is doing very good by him.  Thanks for all your help and support.

why is it that you have a diagnosis and medicine and do not want to medicate?

when we face moetional disorders just because we cannot see anything physical- we still have to treat and monitor EXACTLY as you would do with a disease as diabetes? see?

zoloft helps with ocd/ anxiety/depression- it didn't turn me into a zombie- I still have emotions/
you will try to medicate for both and the dr will monitor- the drugs may be decreased/ increased/ changed/ discontinued/ new drugs begun/ your visits with the Dr will be invaluable since you will be the one monitoring progress or digression- work with them til you all get it right-

The treatment for Asperger's if he is diagnosed with that -is not medication as far as I know - it is behavior modifications and a lot of love and patience....
will chat with you more if you'd like- drop me a note

Here is a thought - many times children with anxiety issues (and OCD is an anxiety disorder) are misdiagnosed with ADD/ADHD.  I'm wondering - could this have happened with your son; after all, the medication did not work.  Anxiety often causes behaviours which mimic those of ADD/ADHD.  Zoloft is a medication that is often used for children suffering from anxiety issues.  Perhaps you could discuss this possibility with your doctor.  I wish you the best ....
