Baby refuses cereal but will eat purees

My 6 month old is currently nursing 4-6 times per day and eating jarred baby food 2-3 times per day.  However, he refuses to eat baby cereal.  He is a healthy weight and sleeping through the night.  Is the breast milk/ jar food combo meeting his nutritional needs right now?  Will there be a time when he really needs the cereal in his diet?

Thank you for the answer.  Pediatricians don't seem inclined to give much nutritional advice beyond "breast is best", it is nice to have something like this available.

At 6 months old it is ok to have only the formula and baby food. Your child is getting his nutritional needs. Some infants do not like the rice cereal. It is recommended not to introduce any other grains to children before one year old to help prevent allergies. When your son starts eating finger foods, around one year old, then introduce breads and cereals. Thank you for your question.
