I am concerned about my daughter, she has been 31 pounds and 42 inches for two years now. I don't know how to get her to gain weight or grow taller. She is active, in gymnastics and does very well, and is also very bright - at the top of her class for reading and math. She loves steak so I give it to her as much as I can afford to and she will have Carnation breakfast drinks in the morning. What else can I do to get her to grow and gain weight?
Her weight is just below the 5th percentile and her height is between the 25-10th percentile for her age. Based on her weight / age, she should be consuming approximately 1800 calories per day for her to grow as recommended the following; Fruits = 1.5 cups; Vegetables 2.5 cups; Grains (cereals, breads) = 6oz equivalents; Meat & beans = 5oz equivalents; Dairy products (milk, yogurt) = 3 cups; Oils = 5 tsp; Additional calories to be used discretionary = 195. This food needs to be divided up between 3 meals and snacks between meals daily. Since you are giving her carnation instant drinks, suggest giving it to her in place of milk at all meals and snacks for additional calories to help her gain weight. Hoped this helped you.
