Constipation in 2 month old

My two month old son is having chronic problems with constipation.  I tried breast feeding him but I had to supplement with a bottle and gave up after a month and went to all formula due to not producing enough milk (I have PCOS and was only producing about an ounce between both breasts despite frequent feedings and pumping.)  When he was being partially breast fed, his stools were normal and of normal frequency and he was having at least one a day.  Once I switched him to all formula he started having very hard stools and straining a lot and went to having one only every 3 days and it wasn't much.  When they aren't hard pellets it is very very thick and sticky like stiff paste.  I have two other children and never had this problem with either of them and they were both bottle fed from the beginning.  The doctor said to put a teaspoon of dark corn syrup in with his formula.  I've done this and it had no effect.  My mother said that my brother had the same problem and that he "lived" on corn syrup for his first year.  My brother is 30 now and has been overweight all his life.  I know part of that is genetic because all of my family are bigger people and not just weight but frame too ( my grandfather almost bumps his head on my parents' kitchen ceiling and I have shoulders like a linebacker LOL!) but I'm worried that him having been fed corn syrup so much as a baby may have contributed to his weight and I don't want the same thing to happen to my son if he has my family's genes to contend with as well.   I've only tried the corn syrup once, should I try it again and put it in every bottle until he gets regular or is there something else I should try?  Should I be worried at all that giving him corn syrup may cause weight gain or a metabolic problem?  I hear so much about corn syrup in foods possibly being linked to metabolic syndrome.

Suggest regular formula (no iron) for a week and see how his stool movements are. If they return to normal then it is the iron in the formula. If not, then there may be an issue that the doctor has to help you with. Do not recommend corn syrup. If you are worried about anemia, ask your Doctor about low dose liquid iron supplement for infants.

Yes and I mentioned that to the doctor as I'd heard from some sources that iron can be constipating and from others that this is not so.  He said that too much iron can cause constipation but that the levels in the brand I'm using should not cause a big problem and that iron is necessary for my son's nutritional needs.  I would be concerned also about limiting iron too much or giving him a formula without it because I know when I was a baby, my mother told me that I became anemic and had to have iron supplements until I got on solid foods.  I didn't have this issue with either of my other children (constipation or anemia) but I know every child is different.

I forgot to add that we tried switching his formula from regular to the gentle with whey proteins but that didn't make any difference at all after two weeks and he didn't seem to like the taste as much so we switched back to the regular stuff.
