Headache first then neck/headaches.

I have woken up with severe neck pain 3x in the last 1 1/2. It went away with after a few weeks. This time around I started with a headache followed by the neck pain and now both. My x-rays show some reversal of lordosis suggesting muscle spasms and also mild narrowing of C5-C6 interspace (site of early discogenic disease). It has been 3 weeks now this time around with the nerve pain headaches and tension in the neck muscles. The doc gave me muscle relaxer, generic Feoricet and Naproxen 500mg x daily. I started a to see a chiro (2x now) and just when I think it might get better, I feel the pains again (seems to be excerbated by hot showers). The Chiro is adjusting my neck followed by a massage. Is he making neck worse? Also, how long will this take to heal? I understand the term flareups off and on, but this has been constant. I'm scared and don't know who to trust or to see for this problem. Someone please help me if you can (I'm 34 yrs. old with two small children and don't want to be doped up everyday). Thanks for any advice.

A reversal of the cervical curve is a complicated structural problem. Depending on the amount of fusion/degeneration within the neck, it can be very difficult to correct, as well as time-consuming.

Physical problems require physical solutions. While the meds will help you deal with the pain, I would recommend visiting a reputable chiropractor in your town who is capable of making measurable structural improvements.

I suggest doing some online searching in your area for an Upper Cervical Chiropractor utilizing the NUCCA, Blair, Palmer, or Atlas-Orthogonal technique methods. A good starting point is this website - www.UpCspine.com.

Thank you for your advice. I actually feel much better today. I'm glad that the reversal can be done in some cases. I spoke to my Chiro yesterday and he looked at my x-rays and said I good disc space throughout, and yes, a little narrowing of the C5, C6 disc space, but it was nothing out of the ordinary for someone my age. I will look into UpCspine.com. I wish more MD's would consider talking to their pt's about their concerns and alternate options of therapy.
