The reality is that our diet only affects about 10% of our serum cholesterol levels so adjusting one's diet is not very effective for individuals with very high TC. In many cases high TC is the direct result of how the body creates and eliminates excess cholesterol. In these cases the best results come from medical management.

One way to lower his cholesterol is to watch his intake of saturated fats. In addition to this, increasing the amount of lentils and leafy green vegetables is a great way to lower his cholesterol while avoiding medication. If he is not working out, he should try to do at least 30 minutes everyday or every other day. I hope this helps =)

So sorry to hear about your husbands diagnosis.  Most doctors will tell you it's about healthy choices while eating- I know when I heard that though, I thought, "well that's great, but what is a healthy choice".  For our diets, we've eliminated or limited sugars, fats (especially saturated fats), sodium, and cholesterol in our foods.  We stay away from all red meats (animals with four legs) and stick with chicken and fish.  Some things that have been mentioned to eat more of- greens, vegetables, avocado, salmon, and more veggies!

Has your husbands doctor recommended any adjustments in diet?
