Monty - Extremely high creatinine but is acting normal

Hi,
Our dog is 4 years old and we are pretty sure it was a toxin that our dog ingested to get him to this stage. We had him stay in the er vet for a week which brought him back from near death. Upon leaving we gave him fluids under the skin twice a day. He started to seem back to normal again within the first week home. When we went back to vet, his Creatinine levels were around 3 and every time we have been back since they are increasing. His Creatinine is currently at 13.3. It has been about 45 day now since the initial incident.  How ever, he is still eating, still drinking and is still very active playful and happy.... Our dog is a Carolina Dog, meaning his bloodline most likely contains some form of wild dog.Is there any way to explain his behavior with this incredibly high levels of Creatinine?

With creatinine so high, the fluids are the best option to getting it down. Let me know ...

What weight is your dog?
What type of SubQ fluids are you giving?
How much (dose) SubQ fluids are you giving?
How often are you giving SubQ fluids?

Also, your dog needs to be on a kidney specific diet for now. This means low sodium, very low phosphorous, high quality proteins (human grade) ... the easiest way of achieving this is to use a canned kd dog food such as Hills kd.

Do you know what phosphorous blood levels are?

If he's still eating okay, that's a positive sign.

The problem is it really depends how much damage has been caused to the kidney organs. That will determine whether they are able to fulfill their filtering role to an adequate level, with or without further intervention.

Has the vet undertaken a blood pressure check? If not, it needs doing.

Get back with answers when you can.
