My dog won't eat

My dog won't eat.  He is in the later stages of kidney failure, I should find out tomorrow how far along he is.  Any suggestions on safe foods to introduce?  He was eating Hills Diet GD, but now he turns his nose up at everything I try.  Thanks

Safe foods are those low in phosphorus, moderate in high-quality protein, minimum sodium. Human grade chicken, fatty meats like lamb, beef and pork (unless there is any pancreatitis present), green tripe, tinned Mackeral in water (rinsed to remove any salt and oil), sticky white rice, tapioca, barley, sweet potato and green beans are all good kd foods. The Hills kd canned is equally good - try adding a teaspoon of organic natural honey on the top to entice your dog into eating it if necessary. Also, try feeding the same daily amount of food but divided into 6 more frequent meals ... these smaller meals more frequently make it easier on the kidneys and cause less nausea. If your dog isn't on an anti-nausea medication, consult your vet. If phosphorus is high in blood results, ask the vet to start aluminium hydroxide as a phosphate binder. Tony

I'm new too but noticed nobody has said anything so I wanted to share my experience. My dog is in stage 3 and also stopped eating for a while. My vet gave her fluid, anti-nausea shot, and something to coat her esophagus (she thinks her esophagus is inflammed) and she started eating again today. However, she's not eating any KD food but my vet said that since she's eating so little, it's better that she eats something than nothing at all. I've heard that tripe and duck have lower phosphorous and better for kidney disease, but I am new here too to learn about diet choices.

Hi, my dog went thru a period of not eating her canned royal canin kidney diet when her creatinine, BUN and phosphorus became elevated more than it had been.  I tried offering her foods that were low in phosphorus and lower in protein.  Some things I tried: scrambled egg whites (but not the yolk which is high in phosphorus), white sticky rice, with a little organic honey or I  mixed with a tiny bit of butter (also low in phosphorus), with a small amt of boiled chicken breast or lean (I used 93%) ground beef.  You can also try green beans--my dog loves them.  Sweet potato is another option, if there's not a potassium problem--my dog loved them, I boiled and mashed it up, adding a little bit of butter and cinnamon for flavor.  She  has had issues with high potassium, so I can no longer offer this, but when I did she ate it all.  White buttered noodles is another food she would eat.  Hope this helps!
