In the recomendation above thre National Jewish RN-DC recommends avoidance of any oily material ingestion. I started taking fish oil supplement/pills daily as recommended by many heart health practitioners. I have some GERD/EER/LPR and wonder whether the advice means that folks with that disease and COPD should not use fish oil supplements.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Lipid pneumonia is not caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), unless it is also accompanied by ingestion of lipids, for example castor oil.  Nor is it associated with Crohn's Disease.  Our advice is that you get a second opinion about the diagnosis, preferably at an academic medical center, as this is a rare disease.  We also strongly urge you to avoid the ingestion of any oily material.  In addition, your lungs should be checked for tuberculosis, as there have been reports of mineral oils contaminated with tubercle bacilli.
