I have copd, emphsema, chronic neuropathy pain from surgeries on my lung and then on my back to remove nerve damage, which it didn't. I have had this for 10 years. In the last 5 year , I am gradually getting worse.
My stomach is bloating out as if I am 9 months pregnant. I am 72 years old and I sure wish I had never had these surgeries. The spot on my lung didn't need to come
off, as it was benign, just an old pneumonia scar.
I hve such a hard pressure under my left breast. I am partially numb there intermittent, and around to my back, which is " raw sore to the touch" internally and externally. This never stops. Pain meds do not help at all. The doc just gave me some aciphex and enzymes for my bloated stomach. Thy just can't seem to help me, and I have went to every kind of doc , I think there is.Now they want me to try Cold Laser Therapy. Has anyone tried this?

With my COPD mornings are the toughest for me. I will cough feeling like I have mucus in my chest. But, very little if any mucus comes up. It usually though will pass for me about half an hour or so after waking up. Some mornings are just worse than other mornings. Some mornings I will hardly have the cough and the mucus. But, I do understand the shortness of breath. That is part of my day all day long. I am not on oxygen, as we lost our health insurance last year. But, you may want to talk to your doctor about this. And allmymarbles could very well be right about the oxygen. Best of luck to you with this.
Do you wake up during the night to use your inhaler? If you have broken sleep you may a longer acting medication, or, if you are already on long-acting medication, you may need oxygen.
