what kind of disease is this?

I was suggested to take a CT scan of the neck and chest with Contrast because i noticed something on the right side of my neck..this was taken last nov.12, 2011..the impressions are normal, except for the  thyroid..The thyroid gland shows reasonable symmetry and normal size.A hypodense fairly defined nodule with rim calcifications are observed in the left lobe measuring 1.5 x 1.3 x 1.6 cm (APxWxCC)..Subcentimeter well defined soft tissue parenchymal nodules are detected in the superior segments of the bilateral lower lung lobes..The rest of the lung fields are clear...But based on my x ray,the only expressions was Atherosclerotic aorta...Please help me to understand this impressions..Iwas worrying if i have a cancer...

thanks for the reply...last dec 8. the doctor requesting me to have a thyroid biopsy and we will get the result after 3days...and we went to pulmonologist to know more about my condition..he said that i have Tuberculosis Granuloma, and he adviced me to take the medicines..but the doctor add that it was not worst like what i thought..i am not infected, because i dont have  symptoms at all like coughing or colds...and he also told me that maybe it because of my thyroid so i got this disease..so im hoping that my thyroid biopsy is benign...

I would think that if it were a cancer your doctors would have contacted you by now. Most certainly since you have the report and you are concerned you should contact the scripting doctor and ask for an appointment to discuss your results.

Benign nodules on the thyroid are not unusual especially the older we get. Actually an ultrasound of the thyroid provides MORE information than the CT scan of the neck.

My family doctor sent me for a CT of the neck and chest w/contrast, a 2.1cm  x 1.6cm  x 2.1cm nodule was found on my thyroid, plus some tinier ones. so I was sent for a soft tissue ultrasound of the neck and there was a similar more intense finding. I was referred to an endocrinologist who sent me for an ultrasound guided thyroid biopsy. As expected the nodule was benign and the recommendation is an ultrasound once a year to monitor it unless problematic symptoms occur.

Parenchymal refers to the essential parts of an organ that are concerned w/its function in contradistinction to its framework.

So frankly, it doesn't sound like there's anything to worry about except diet, medication, etc. to prevent or delay further hardening of the aorta and other arteries.

That is how "I" read your quoted report. But I'm just a patient.
