if I seek help will I get disqualified for transplant?
No, part of your evaluation is an interview with the team psych. They expect that anxiety and depression are a natural response to illness.
you may be offered counseling or an anti depressant. It is not our feelings that disqualify us but how we cope with them. I took the meds and started a light exercise program. another important qualification for transplant is that you have a good support system. You need to enlist the help of friends and family to get you through it .
Hang in there, it is a long road but your patience and perseverance will pay off.
thank you for the advise, I think I will do that but if I seek help will I get disqualified for transplant?
Hi Aritzr,
I am sorry to hear you are feeling depressed. It really goes along with the disease. You really have to forgive yourself and realize your family loves you .
I have found the best way to cope is to pray every time I get negative thoughts. I also take an antidepressant that my GI Doc allows. Hang in there ...Cirrhosis is a long road but you will make it..
