Retaining fluid

I have hep c and cirrhosis of the liver.  Two weeks ago I had 2 liters of fluid drained off my lung.  I just went for a Cat Scan of my lung and they said the fluid is back again.

How serious is this?  What can I expect?

What you are describing is pleural effusion.  This is usually common with decompensation of the liver or end stage liver disease.
Unfortunately the fluid continues to reappear even after drainage.
You will want to be under the care of a Hepatologist preferably at a major transplant center.  I'm not a Dr so cannot predict what will occur but would
think that an evaluation for a transplant might be considered.
As far as your Hep C, there are currently new treatments that are Interferon free and safer then in the past.  Your Dr may decide to treat you now, or if a transplant is indicated possibly after.
I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru this.  As a fellow Cirrhotic we never
know what the future holds.  Will say that new advances in treatment are happening which will hold the key for liver disease.  You want to try and stay as healthy as possible to avoid further complications.
I send you hope that this current situation will soon be resolved.
Take Care

Hi I am so very sorry to hear of your problem.  What has the doctor said?
There are others who will be along soon.  The weekends can be a little slower and it is early here on east coast.  At least for Saturday.
I will try to find some info and come back
