Is severe weight loss normal with bronchitis, or should I get a second opinion?

I'm a 60 year old male in excellent general health.  I'm physically fit, active, and never smoked.  I had my annual physical in December and got a clean bill of health.  About 3 weeks ago, I came down with what I thought was the flu - body aches, coughing up mucus and 103 fever.  I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis, given antibiotics and prednisone.  2 weeks later, I'm still coughing constantly, but it's dry - no mucus, can't sleep and found I've lost over 10 lbs.  My appetite is down, but I have been eating.  I went back to the doctor, and they prescribed cough syrup and they ordered blood work and chest xray - both of which came back normal.  5 days later, still coughing, but I've lost another 6 lbs.  I called the office and they said to be patient, that it takes time to recover from this, but I'm really worried.  My body fat percentage is pretty low to begin with and this weight loss is severe.  I was 5'9" and 162 lbs.  I'm now 146 lbs.  Should I seek a second opinion or is this normal and I just have to let it run its course?

Try alternative medicine NAET and/or BRT. Body restoration technique with a chiropractor that does applied kenisology. AK.

Both methods are NON invasive and a higher level of accupunture without NEEDLES.

I have used both over 10 years with EXTREMELY good results.

This year had the flu for 8 days with a cough that took every ounce of my body. Once the practitioner cleared the virus. I still had cough and pain in lungs.

I received 5 treatments for lung and cough. Bronchitis  and this did the trick.

In addition to allergies I have used both methods for issues such as rashes, viruses,  bacteria. Lung and cough,  bronchitis,  asthma. Blood sugar. Thyroid. Epstein Bar. Inflammation. Arthritis. Thyroid  the list goes on.

Give a fair chance and your health will improve.

Good luck

Sorry you've been so sick.  You may have had the flu and then by the time you got to the doctor had what is common after flu, a secondary infection, the bronchitis.  The tricky thing about lungs is that once they are irritated, we can definitely cough for a good long time. Some people develop a type of asthma after being sick called bronchia asthma.  It is definitely true that people who have bronchitis can take a good while to stop coughing mainly because of that irritation that takes a while to go away.  Losing weight can happen when you are sick--  you probably are exhausted, not eating well, not sleeping, etc.  I'd give it another couple of weeks and if you are still as you are now, go back to the doctor for that second opinion.  Hope you feel better-- all the way better-- soon.
