Stabbing in my head

Had a cold 2 weeks ago. (headache, inability to swallow, sore ear left, stiff neck, joint pains )

Recovered last friday. Apart from Neck pain, sore throat and sore ear, left side. Lasted through saturday and sunday.

Sunday night got sharp pain and pop in my nose. Small pops. like someone stabbing with a needle.

Since then now at friday, Having bouts of these sharp pains but they go from nose to the joint of my neck and head, That and a build up of pressure in my head. Not to mention the fowl smell in my mouth. It stops me in my tracks. I use sinus relief and ibruprofen. It helps.

Really need something. Ive been trying to get a doctors appointment but no luck yet..

Hey thanks muchos.

Thank muchos for the tips. Unfortunately I have severe fear of lifts as well, but thats not the cause of my panic. (Its people, young people and some other stuff lol)

I don't have a bath sadly. We're in a temporary house (soon to be a permanent house) so we didnt have choice about getting a bath, that and the other half is a bit scared of water (drowning)

We have enough humidity in the house too unfortunately. But the nasal spray has done the trick mostly. Still popping but no where near as bad or painful.

I don't eat or drink any of the above bar a little bit of chocolate as a treat. My migraines are triggered by stress, but mostly from photophobia which means my eyes constantly struggle with light. Gets frustrating, they don't react properly to light, pupils are huge when its real bright and pin point when its dark. (Opposite from the norm)  So even a bright day (no sun) can cause a migrain, that and fluorescent lights, they are a big trigger. I like dull places.

Glad to hear that you are much improved Ellie and getting better by the day.

Sorry to hear about the panic attacks.  I used to have panic attacks in lifts (but as a cleaner one year had no choice when I had to take down large rubbish bags,  so eventualy overcame that).
The thing is that you will be in control.  When you have a hot bath, you are inhaling the steam, as well as when you are dring a hot drink.

You do not have to stick your head over a bowl of water.  A bowl of steam in the room with the oil vapours is fine.  You can now purchase plug ins that emit vapour into the room.  You will probably find that once your sinus problem is less congested it will help with your breathing.  Unless you suffer from asthma.

With your migraine problems you will probably be already aware of the triggers for this, which can from anxiety, stress, or even your panic attacks or being in a draught.  But there are also food triggers.  Just in case you are not familiar with food triggers, the main migraine trigger foods for migraine sufferers is:
chocoloate, red wine, cheese, oranges.  You may have some other trigger foods, so if you already do not do it, it may be worth for you to keep a food diary to find your trigger food so that you can avoid it.

Best wishes x

Thanks

Yeah its finally drained yesterday. It was a lot of mucus and nasty coloured but it seems to have cleared me up greatly.
Its still a bit sore and the nasal spray seems to be helping..
They thinks its viral. And I am allergic to amoxicillin / augmentin. which is the most commonly used antibiotic.

I grew up having constant ear infections. So its possible that thats been why its been soo bad.

It was an infection from the thickness (it caused me to choke on it while it was clearing) and lovely green colour. Its still coming out but not as much.

Unfortunately I can't put my head over steam as I have breathing problems. (panic attacks)

Ive stuck to the sinus relief and the ibruprofen its helping enough. Still getting headaches but im used to migrains from my eyes so its not much worse for now. which is a good sign.

Thanks for the well wishing.

Shall hope to be 100% within the week. =]

Glad to hear you are feeling a little better.

The popping you were experiencing is the mucus congestion within the cavities.

I am surprised the doctor did not prescribe an antibiotic as well.  No doubt if the nasal spray does not work, then the doctor will.

If it is a viral infection, unfortunately antibiotics will not help.

You can also help yourself by doing steam inhalations over a hot bowl of water with Vick or Olbas oil in and inhaling the steam with your head over the hot water covered by a towel.  Take care not to get scalded.

What you have had is called a head cold.  If you ever find that you produce mucus that is greeen or yellow this indicates that there is infection.

Drink plenty of warm drinks like lemon and honey or Ribena.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Best wishes.

thanks.
I saw the doctor. she thinks its just sinus blocked. I've got some nasal spray and keep taking paracetamol and ibruprofen. Been told if its not better in a week then to go back. It feels a bit better ie no sharp pains in about 24hours.

Thanks

That sounds like something you definitely need to see a doctor about!  Tell the receptionist that it's an emergency and you need to get in asap.  It could be something serious.  I don't know much about Shingles, but my husband had it a few years back and he said the biggest thing he remembers about the symptoms was random sharp pains in his head - kind of like lightning bolts.  Don't know if your pains are related at all, but it sounds like you need to see a doc soon.  If nothing else, they should be able to help you with the pain...
