Phlegm in throat

Hello, I am not sure this is right section for this question, but I guess its the most relevant since I couldn't find one for sore throats. I have been having a bit of phlegm build up in my throat for a while now, almost three weeks. I have been drinking 2 litres of water per day, gargling water with baking soda, hot tea. I have not had any recent allergies, barely a bit of snot because of the cold (im in the southern hemisphere). I smoke one or two cigarrettes per day at a maximum. I actually feel a prickling feeling in my throat, as if a bit of the tissue might actually be damaged, but only slightly. I did have a hangover over a month ago where I vomitted quiet a lot and my throat felt like it was burning, but the pain did not linger. I guess that tissue damage must be the source of the phlegm, since the body creates mucus to protect it from further injury, right?

What can I do to ease the damaged tissue, or at least control the phlegm?

Thank you for your time!!

Ralph

Singers put great strain on their vocal chords and throat.  Do what the Opera singers do, and stop speaking or singing for a couple of days to give the throat time to heal and rest.

Hi

No, I don't feel any wheezing or noises when I inhale, I doubt its bronchitis. The phlegm is very watery and the amount that builds up is small. Thanks a lot, I am a singer and this is a hassle for me!

1. Stop smoking, it'll only exacerbate it.
2. It probably has nothing to do with the vomiting.
3. You may have bronchitis, do you feel any wheezing or noises when you inhale? Also is the phlegm watery, or is it firm-ish? Yes it's possible you also have a bacterial infection in your throat. Go to your doctor, s/he'll give you a prescription for antibiotics.
4. For the damaged tissue, STOP SMOKING, and try Vix vapodrops or strepsils, they work for me.
