If you feel you have got chest congestion and you are coughing up nasty discoloured mucus and have nasal congestion, it is highly likely that you have a respiratory infection.
Although the remedies mentioned by the previous posters are good, it doesn't clear up bacterial or viral infections. Antibiotics do not work on viral infections
To help loosen up the congestion do steam inhalations. Get a bowl of very hot water (take care not to get scalded). Put a little bit of Vick or Olbas oil or your preferred menthol, bend your head over the bowl and cover your head and bowl with a towel. Breathe in the steam through your nose and out through your mouth. My doctor advised me to do this 4 times a day for a duration of 10 minutes each time.
You can also rub some Vick or other vapour rub on to your neck, chest and back.
Make sure you drink plenty of warm drinks - hot water with fresh lemon and honey is great to soothe the throat.
Avoid milk products whilst you are suffering from congestion. Milk products encourage the production of mucus.
Make an appointment with your doctor so that he can listen to your lungs and examine your ears, nose and throat and prescribe the suitable medication (antibiotic) if he feels this is required.
Wishing you a speeding recovery and a good pregnancy.
Best remedy for colds two tsps of pure lemon in hot water if that don't work go to your local physio and as for a cream called mintease get someone to rub it on your back and you rub on your chest works a treat every time!!!!!!
You are probably going to want to contact your doctor. You want to be sure that nothing interferes with the baby. My go to has always been warm water with lemon.....it helped to loosen up the phlem.
I hope that you feel better. :)
