Eosinophilic Colitis - Looking for light at the end of the tunnel

35y Male - diagnosed with Eosinophilic Colitis 12 months ago following biopsy. Over that period I have tried different combinations of Prednisolone, Budesonide, Salazopyrin, Singulair and Colpermin, all with limited success.

Presently, I am taking Budesonide (9mg daily) and Salazopyrin (150mg daily). Whilst this allows me to function normally (i.e. normal bowel movements) I have discomfort, bloating and cramping all day, every day.

Has anybody ever come through this disease to lead a normal life, or has anyone treated a patient that has done so? At the moment I am struggling with the realisation that I may have to live like this forever and it is a dauting and scary thought. I am interested in hearing a success story or sorts - to give me hope that someday I might become "normal" again.

Thanks,
GJ

My 18 month old son was recently diagnosed with Eosinophilic colitis and is currently taking sodium chromoglicate and citirizine.  We have eliminated dairy and eggs from his diet.  It has helped slightly but if his symtoms continue we will need to tak out soya and wheat aswell.

Hi,
The natural history of eosinophilic colitis has not been well described, but clinical studies point to a chronic relapsing course for patients who have this diagnosis.
Elemental diet can be taken to control symptoms.
Continued dietary restrictions is needed for control of symptoms.
