J-Pouch reversal

My partner had J-pouch surgery on Feb and is having a reversal to reconnect and close his ostomy this weekend.  During the time he's had the ileostomy pouch he's dehydrated twice.  I'm wondering what are the chances of that after the surgery is complete.

Thanks
Isabelle

Hi Isabelle1963,
When the ostomy is closed, the continuity of the intestine is restored. The gut will function more or less as in a normal person. So the chances of dehydration is very low unless he develops diarrhea due to various reasons.

The reversal surgery has taken place and he is home recuperating but not doing very well.  Apparently his anus muscle [sorry for the wordage] is functioning really high and he makes approx 10-17 trips to the bathroom at night to avoid a accident.  Is there anything that can be done for this? or is this normal?

Thank you
Isabelle
