My boyfriend is 24 and had suffered symptom of chrons throughout childhood. Debilitating diarrhea, cramping, major constipation with serious back ups, bleeding. These symptoms were left wholely untreated and suffering with them may have had emotional effects (who am I to say). As a young adult he had sought help for his symptoms and was diagnosed by a specialist with Chrons Disease. He never started treatment and lives with the symptoms. He knows very little about the illness and doesnt want to know. His current symptoms: major constipation- he moves his bowels about once weekly, no urge to move his bowels- he says his urge is broken, pain in the upper abdomen and chest area that is relieved by moving his bowels, occasional bleeding, and canker sores in the mouth and throat. He is not interested in seeing a doctor but would be receptive to me making informed suggestions about things he could do himself, naturally, to relieve discomfort. I am looking for diet and suppliment information as well as any opinions about the severity of his current symptoms. Thank you for your help.
Your boyfriend needs proper evaluation. He needs colonoscopy to grade the severity of the disease.
Based on the severity , treatment has to be given.
Crohn's cannot be controlled with just diet and other supplements alone.
He needs medications like 5ASA, steroids.......
Consult your gastro regarding this.
