Colon cancer

My sister had colon cancer about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Since her reversal things have not been good. She stills has alot of pain and seems to be on the tiolet forever when she has to go. Will she ever be the same? Is there something she can take to firm her stool? She sometimes becomes very depressed about what her life has become. Please help me help her.   Debra

CEA tests are notorious for not being accurate unless a person has specifically been diagnosed with colon cancer, however.  Usually the only time the CEA is tested is when colon cancer has been confirmed because it is known to show false positives in people with no colon cancer, as well as false negatives for people who do.  Even in diagnosed people, it isn't always an accurate indicator.  A Fecal Occult Blood Test would probably be the first test given, then a colonoscopy if the FOBT shows positive for blood in the stool.

Recently my CEA was test and came back 12.5.  I was being watched and tested for a MPD witch a bone marrow biopsy done.  The blood disorder was ruled out.  Now the doctor is concearned by the CEA number and has ordeded some additional tests.  What tests should I be having?

I currently have a reversal from a colon-type operation as well. I still am going through the whole healing process, of course it was only month ago. You might want to get her to get her doctor to prescribe her any stool-hardening pill.
