Just want you to know that I have you in my prayers tonight and wishing you peace and comfort. I have had many surgeries and you have to be patient and let your body heal. If you have no support or family, and your man not helping , you may want to ask a church. They may have a support group or babysitting.  I belong to church of Jesus Christ of Laterday Saints. they are great help to me always when I need. I am sure ,any churches will help as is taught in scripture to serve one another. Helps the heart as well.  Bad health is the pits. Try to have some happy moments and you will heal faster. I fyou cna check out the book Called Head First by Norman cousins. I actually contribute it suggestions  to helping shrink my brain tumor in 1997...so many years! :) Good Luck

Hi, I just read your post and am concerned.  I have recently gone to get bloodwork done and i just had xrays and mri done due to a constant pain i have at my left side right below the rib cage but above the pelvis.  Reading your post has me concerned.  Are there any other signs i should be aware of so i don't completely stress myself out.

Thanks,
Philippe

Hi - I was fortunate enough not to require a bag although I was measured for one.  My surgeon told me that for a total colectomy a bag is required in ~2% of cases so the chance was very low.

Staypositive...I am sure that you will be glad that you underwent this treatment when you have recovered.

Good luck

Hi - I underwent a total colectomy just over four years ago.

On a previous posting I described my experience and the aftermath.

Try logging on to:-

Maybe you should print off my posting and show it to your surgeon and ask him/her if my own description is similar to what you can expect.

Please come back with any further questions that you may have.  I hope that I can help you and provide reassurance because, from your posting, I can tell that you are worried.

This is a big operation but life does return to normal and you should feel a lot better after recovering.

I think you should share your fears with your doctor/surgeon since you will feel less anxious if they know that this is difficult for you.

Good luck
