Somethings going on with my bowels - possibly colon cancer

Hi,

I just recently was told about a neighbor who has stage V colon cancer and has about 3 months to 3 years to live.  When asking what his symptoms were he told me dark blood in the stool and a few other things.  I then began to think about my own stool.  I had a baby back in 08 and had a level 4 tear it was horribly fixed and ever sense the birth and repair I have always had a small mount of bright red blood when wiping when I have a large bowel movement (I go about 3 to 4 times a week and usually this happens once or twice).  To add to the above in 09 I had my gall bladder removed and following that now have on and off boughts of runs and consitpation.  I only seem to have bright red blood when I am constipated.  Just recently with in the past year after having the gall bladder out I have started to notice jelly like feces that typically is once every 3 weeks.  I figured just another result of not having a gall bladder.  I am now 18 weeks pregnant and have scared my self into thinking that these symptoms could be colon cancer after reading many stories about young women having similar symptoms and indeed having cancer.  I am calling tomorrow 12/13 to make an apointment to see a Dr. should I see my OB or should I go to my regular Dr. I figure I will be refered to a specialist anyways but I am not sure if anyone can shead some light on similar situations etc.

The important thing here is that your father and grandfather were not young. Did you lose your father, or did he just have polyps?  This is common starting at 50 and that is why they suggest everyone start getting scoped at 50.  They can remove polyps during a scope and they are slow growing. Let me know what you find out, I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks for your input I am for sure going to get this taken care of with a specialist but I do have close family ties with colon cancer a grandpa who died of colon cancer at 70 and a father with polops at 50 (sp) I know that this is a bit far fetched but it does have me worried.   I will let you know what I find out.  I pray that its indeed what you mentioned and not anything more.  Thanks!!!

Colon cancer in someone as young as you is extremely rare unless there is a genetic colon cancer disease in your family.  You may have an anal fissure which is a tear in the anus, or you may be suffering from hemorroids, both can bleed with constipation.  Any rectal bleeding needs to be checked out, but I truly doubt it's anything serious.  It's best to see a Gastroenterologist, since this is their specialty.  Take care!
