L-Tryosine amino acid

Anyone take this? Have read its good for Hashimoto thyroid disease muscle / nerve pain / soreness. Never used it, thinking about trying it. Synthesizes neurotransmitters supposedly. I posted on the thyroid forum too, but you guys over here are more into this stuff.

So what have people used it for and what did they notice?

thanks,
LM

I am hypothyroid, tried taking Tyrosine sublingually ( in a spray) as recommended by naturopath. I had anxiety and my heart skipped  off and on for several hours every time I took it. I tried various time- same results every time. That was NOT fun!
Good luck to you if you change your mind and decide to try it. It is supposed to be very helpful for thyroid.

I read into it more. It can cause heart palps and insomnia - both hypo thyroid symptoms that I have had and dont want again.

Tyrosine is mostly involved in the production of norepinephrine and serotonin.  It can be stimulating and it can be relaxing depending on the person.  It's most often used in the treatment of depression, but obviously has many uses in the body.  The trend these days is to treat pain and fatigue with antidepressants, particularly snris that target both norepinephrine and serotonin such as Cymbalta.  Recently approved for treatment of fibromyalgia.  Don't know if they really do anything for these or just make people feel better about it.  As for tyrosine, its effects will be much milder than an snri, but also with fewer side effects, so it couldn't hurt.  If it bothers you, stop taking it.  Tyrosine is an amino acid, a component of protein.  An essential co-factor is B6, but there are others as well.  I tried it after a bad Paxil withdrawal, but it made me more nervous so I stopped, but I've been getting so many paradoxical reactions since then I'm not a good guide.
