I would say it all depends on the dosage that you are taking and whether you really need it.
I would also advice that you should not be taking any medication unless prescribed to you by your doctor. Your doctor would be able to arrange for a blood test to be taken to check your Vitamin D levels and advise you with regard taking any should your Vitamin D levels be low. Too much of this vitamin can be quite harmful. This vitamin is stored in the liver and I understand that when we are exposed to sunshine the liver does convert something or other to make this vitamin. Fish, eggs, milk, butter and fortified bread and cereals contain this vitamin too.
Eat a healthy and well balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, dairy (if you are not allergic to it), but avoid pates and soft cheeses. If you are allergic to dairy, you should have the alternatives so that you get your calcium for strong bones and teeth (for you and your growing baby). Vitamin D does help with the absorption of calcium. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids (milk too if you are OK with that) so that you do not become dehydrated.
Your doctor may prescribe Folic Acid (a type of vitamin) for you to take whilst you are pregnant. Bread and breakfast cereals are fortified with this vitamin, but sometimes there is not enough and it is important to the health of your growing baby.
Best wishes
I cuncur with Gymdandee. That being said, I would suggest a trip to the U.S. database pubmed, which documents a host of problems in pregnancy from vitamin D deficiency. The answer is to consult your physician/ob.gyn and have a blood test for vitamin D levels before self-medication.
