problems with b.p medications

Hi im new here ..
I have today switched me medications from chemical types to Natural types-  due to massive adverse side effects and also allergic reactions ,that caused me palpations !  when off the chemical drugs -no palpations at all or side effects !

I am taking hyperzosin 2pills per day and res Q 1250 fish oil pills and ldlx pill.  and a very mild dieuretic pill  at 12mg
hopeing b.p will go down.   so far im ok !

By chance, is there anything or type of Natural b.p med that works well in lowering b.p down ?  or something I can take natural  that will work fast and good...  as I can no longer take chemical medications for b.p .. due to the problems iv got !

I wont talk about my boneheaded doctor - who refuses to test me or switch medications - they are all the same !!
non careing and get you in for the money and out fast ..with samples of pure b/s drugs mostly untested by the fda.

I have also thought of starting natural legal m.j . pot eatting or ?  to see if that helps me .. as alot of people said it does
work in lowering b.p down and calming down ..  but I have a fear with that .. so just wondering on that issue ?

thanks for any help here.

I feel for anyone who has problems with blood pressure medications!  iv been living with
daily side effects since 1980 - they are ugly and awfull to have !  iv tryed (ginny pigged ) 14
diffrent types and brands - nothing worked well - with todays insurance plan doctors im finding that -most play a guessing game, and treat the symptom and not the problem.
useing the same stupid drugs iv taken before (only under a diffrent name ) Im too smart for them !!  as I read and know the diffrent names. iv been kicked out of 4 doctors offices, for so called being a wise guy ! I spoke up aginst the doctor -How dare me !!  **** its my life isnt it ??    well anyways im going to try the natural med paxiled talked about .. very soon.
and get off these awfull beta blockers!   I can do anything active anymore! and im so tired.
iv taken beta blockers before - and remember these same side effects happend ? why then would a licenced Doctor give me these again ? its insane if they didnt work or help/
im at a loss on this one !!
I will keep trying more natural meds.. something has to work for me ..

I have the real list of side effects for toprol xl  or diovan -or atenonol - coreguard -
verapamil ccb.  procardia xl .   if you want them ...

I wish your brother the best.  be very carefull of Doctors today! and always get a 2nd
opn on everything.   that is very very important to do.

BP meds shortened my father's life.  I mean, he made it to 80, so he didn't do badly, but they put him on one for seven years that had pulmonary problems as a principal side effect, not good for a lifetime smoker.  He ended up with pneumonia, which caused a heart attack, which led to emphyzema, which led to a lack of energy and oxygen the last three years of his life.  Probably would have made it to 100 otherwise.  Well, maybe.  Love those meds.

hi all im back - I just read all the posts.. I had a few problems with b.p again. seems the
natural b.p meds I was taking -didnt work so well after 1month - fact is they faded on me and my b.p spiked out high again !!  though I kept on the fish oil pills 4 a day and ldlx pill
q10 pill  and also vitamin E daily - also took a rice protein powder drink daily - but that
got me sick after a weeks time -so stopped that stuff . due to ultra high b.p went to the old
primary doctor and was put on atenonol beta blocker at 75mg per day.  it works ok but
omg ! forgot about the side effects ! I they are harsh and bad adverse for sure !! I would rather take horse **** than this drug !  - bad stuff atenonol .. paxiled im right with you !!
thanks for the advice will try that b.p med first and see if it works for me. .

also airescottie - I do have the problem of sleeping with mouth breathing - and slight
snoring then waking up tired in the a.m.  im going to look into that soon - nope cant take
a ace inhibbitor drug .. allergic to them ..

I think the best thing is to find a natural med for b.p that works good enough first.
then take steps - to get more healthy and slowly move ahead.
I recently lost my job due to health reasons - had a recent operation for skin cancer
no sooner returned to work and was more less forced to quit the job.   long story!
but I think I did the right thing - as the risk factors were too great working there.

soo natural way might be the best to go

I have another suggestion.  My mom's BP crept up a little over time, then all of a sudden shot up (over 200/100).  BP meds didn't help much.  It turned out she had developed sleep apnea.  If you snore, are a mouth breather at night, wake up gasping for air, or wake up tired in the morning, you might want to get a sleep study.  After she got her CPAP machine to sleep with, her BP went back to normal and she got off the ACE inhibitor.  I've since heard similar stories from others with sleep apnea.

Oh, and watch the green tea for awhile.  Yeah, it's very balanced, but it does contain a lot of caffeine.  And No omega 6?  Bi, you'd die.  Sure, you don't want to overdo them, but none?  Also, gingko's a great herb for strengthening the capillaries and might help blood pressure, but you won't generally find it in blood pressure formulas because it circulates blood to the brain and heart.  Better to wait on that one, too.  First bring the pressure down, then move on.

Also, don't know why the licorice discussion since it doesn't lower blood pressure, it raises it, but if you do ever have to use licorice and you have high blood pressure, use what's called DGL, or deglycerrized licorice.  It removes the ingredient in licorice that raises blood pressure.  This is a very effective treatment for gastric problems and ulcers.

Fish oil pills are fine.  The liquid can oxidize, so the pills are probably better.  Yeah, you have to take a lot of them, but they're protected all the way along the processing line.  If you do buy liquid, it has to be from the absolute best of companies and bought from the absolute best of stores to prevent oxidation.  Vitamine E in liquid oxidizes immediately upon contact with the air, so vitamin e in liquids or cosmetics isn't there when you use it.  Same with Vitamin C.  Vitamin E should also be taken in a gel cap.

The best blood pressure formula for lowering it is the linden mistletoe tincture from Herb Pharm.  But it won't be fast, natural remedies take time.  You also have to work on diet, stress, and exercise, so seeing a professional such as a holistic nutritionist or naturopath isn't a bad idea, but this formula worked for everyone I ever sold it to.  Strange, but true.

wow lots of posts here , have to sort thru them all - im doing ok on the natural med now
and fish oil pills and ldlx pill.  took a very small dose of dieuretic pill 12mg  and it helped
reduce the blood pressure down - 140s over 89 to 87  pulse 79 to 84 high .. for now that isnt bad for me .. as iv had higher b.p readings before.  palps have almost all stopped.

I will review all posts and try and figure something out natural wise.  as its for sure -I can not tollerate and have allergic reactions to chemical b.p medications.
and im so-so tired of being a Ginny Pig with doctors - try this or that ! never to read the
side effects or careing what they hand out. not to mention im 55yrs old ..so being a ginny
pig to any doctor anywhere ***** !

thanks again

Licorice is sometimes prescribed by naturopathic physicians to increase blood pressure.

And to treat fatigue.

The active compound in licorice is glycyrrhizic acid (GA), which is hydrolized in the body to produce glycyrrhetinic acid, which in turn promotes renal sodium retention and potassium loss.

In one test in doses of from 50-200 g/day, after two weeks, the increase in pressure (systolic) increased from 3-14mm, corresponding to the daily dose.

There a number of reasons for "high" blood pressure.

And a high blood pressure, though connected with a higher incidence of strokes, is not necessarily "bad". Mother nature never "does nuthin for nuthin' " Remember that.

To control high blood pressure, one has to look at the reasons. Sometimes there is no apparent reason.

In many cases, higher blood pressure is compensatory. You have to be careful in fooling with compensatory high blood pressure. An example of compensatory high blood pressure is blood pressure to compensate for asthma. A high heartrate (over 100) is generally a sign of a compensatory blood pressure.

Years ago I worked briefly for a pharmaceutical company manufacturing calcoium channel blockers. One of their in-house confidential studies confirmed that 18% of test subjects could significantly reduce blood pressure by taking calcium supplements.

They also found that consuming two cloves of garlic a day reduced blood pressure.

I would not be taking potassium supplements without bloodwork. Excess potassium can be very dangerous. If you want a banana a day, then fine.

Blood pressure is regulated by several mechanisms, two of which are sensors located in the right and left carotid arteries. These sensors get covered with deposits. There is good evidence that pomegranite pills (or the juice) over a period of months, can reduce these deposits, enabling the sensors to function properly. Daily niacin supplements are also helpful.

These sensors also sense "C02".

Cesation of smoking is a must.

There are also a number of bio-feedback machines on the market that show promise.

Before taking supplements, you should request your physician to perform one of the common blood clotting tests, to determine if your blood is clotting normally. I would do this before taking alpha-lipoic acid or ginkgo baboa. You shoiuld also request a hematocrit. An abnormal hematocrit if often a cause of abnormal blood pressure. If this is the case, you may have iron deficiency anemia, the curing of which will solve the blood pressure problem.

The very first thing to do is to take your blood pressure AND your heartrate. A blood pressure reading is meaningless without knowing the heartrate. And always take the reading on the same arm.

In addition take what are called orthostatic blood pressure readings. Do an internet search.

If you decide to begin to naturally reduce your blood pressure, the FIRST thing you should do is to stop medication and take several readings per day over the next three weeks, reduce salt (very, very important), get good hydration, and take daily calcium supplements. See if this resolves the issue completely.

Then you can go to square 2, using additional natural protocols.
