Painful Extraction

My primary care dentist extracted tooth #30 last Tuesday. The dentist gave me stitches and told me to return in a week to remove them, but by Friday I was in excruciating pain.  Motrin 800 ml did not work and Vicodin made me sicker, so I'm back on Motrin 800 ml.  The dentist treated me for dry socket that Friday and gave me a Rx for Amoxicillen.  The pain did not improve over the weekend so on Monday I returned to her office only for her to remove the stitches and restitch me all over again.  She also injected me with an antibiotic which was very painful.  The needle was almost intolerable.  She pricked me several times to deaden me but it was only minimal.  I'm due to return on tomorrow for her 2 check my progress, but I'm still in pain.  Sometimes I feel like I'm going to die from all this pain and pumping myself with Motrin daily. Shouldn't I be feeling better and do I need to see an oral surgeon.  I have done everything the dentist asks.  Warm salt water rinses.  Chewing on one side. Drinking lukewarm liquids. Keeping the area clean.  I'm miserable!  I wish I could be put in a temporary coma so I wont have to continue feeling this pain.

I'm feeling a little better.  Thanks for asking.  My second set of stitches will be removed Thursday.  I'll know more then.  I'm still popping Motrin 800 mg. everyday and sensitive to hot and cold beverages.  This is miserable.  Motrin can cause damage to the kidneys.  I know I had to have the tooth removed because of an abscess, but I'm also fearful of future dental work. Hope u feel better!

I am having the exact same problem now. I am wondering if you are feeling any better? I have been having dry socket for a week now and still no improvement. I am taking pain killers (which always make me drowsy) daily and still trying to cope with my daily life activities (school & work). It is so unbearable. I am now starting to have a dentophobia.
