I have been diagnosed with CHF and I am 61 years old. I used to cut my own grass, take care of my house in all ways and go swimming indoors every day of the year in this cold climate. Now, I am depressed because I get so short of breath and I can do my normal activities. I decided to join a senior center where I can sit down and do chair exercises and eat lunch with other seniors. I just want to give this advice to anyone who feels sad because they can't breath or do the activities they once enjoyed like me. Thank you for listening.
Hi,
It is difficult to predict, as every patient responds differently to the treatment given. It also, depends upon the heart pumping function, preload and associated factors like state of coronaries, kidney function etc. As, she is requiring oxygen support, as of now her condition is considered critical, but drugs that improve heart pumping and diuretics which flush out fluid from the body, as well as ICD to remove excess fluid in lungs can help her respiratory effort and make her feel better requiring less oxygen support. Hope this helps. Best.
Thanks for your info to Shamrock61, I read it and realize now its up to me and doc to get this CHF stabilized and get on with whatever life I have left...
How long can she survive? It depends on what her doctor does for her, and what drugs he gives to her....basically what the doctor does to get her symptoms under control will be the determining factor for how long she survives, along with what she does to help herself, such as diet, etc.
I hope my answer is not too simple for the situation, but it's the facts.
