Hi,
How are you? Was this procedure done last year or this year? Are there other signs or symptoms present? If you are asymptomatic and no problems with your pulmonary pressure as advised above, another surgical procedure may not be warranted. Continue with the prescribed medications as well. It is important that you have regular follow-up appointments with your cardiologist for monitoring and checking on your progress. Laboratory test may be repeated such as an electrocardiogram, a chest X-ray, or an echocardiogram at these visits.
Take care and keep us posted.
Right to left shunt runs a higher risk for clots and anti-platelet medication is required as some blood will not have been filtered through the lungs and depending on atrial pressures so you probably should be on medication.
Whether you need an operation may depend on whether or not you have symptoms Patients who have a small ASD without symptoms or heart rhythm disturbances, may only require periodic monitoring by a cardiologist specializing in adult congenital heart disease. When an ASD is associated with high pulmonary pressures, closing the defect may not be appropriate. Early detection and regular evaluation are very important to avoiding high pulmonary pressures.
I think you should check with your doctor. Maybe it was left that way for a reason?? I would not stop any meds before talking with the doctor.
