interpretation of result

my dad had just had an echo and it resulted that he has unventricular failure . the left ventricle is very dilated and very hypocontrcatile.estimated ef is 30%. small pericardial effusion present, moderate to severe functional mr, both arteries are dilated.RV is dilated and hypocontractile function is moderate to severe TR with a gradient of about 35mmhg. IVC is very dilated and does not collapse with respiration. estimated pulmonary sytem PR of at least 50mmhg. what does this mean? does it mean that there is no treatment for it? if there is what type of treatment there is. .

It's the valves. A valve on the right and left side of your heart are leaking quite bad and are in need of repair. The Cardiologist needs to decide if the valves caused this problem, OR if another problem has caused the valves to be damaged. Either way, valve repairs will greatly benefit your heart and it should recover significantly, if not totally. Did the Cardiologist not mention anything about your Mitral and Tricuspid valves? and recommend repair surgery or replacement?

Hi, the ejection fraction is a useful measure of left ventricular performance. The normal range is 63-77% for males and 55-75% for females. It reflects the pumping capacity of the heart. 30% EF indicates left heart failure. If mean pulmonary artery pressure at or above 25 mmHg, it indicates pulmonary hypertension. As he has a pulmonary artery pressure of 50 mmhg, it could also indicate that there is right heart failure. Treatment for low ejection fraction is focused on reducing symptoms and preventing the progress of the disease involved from worsening. Ejection fraction can be improved by lifestyle changes, medications and procedures, such as the insertion of an implantable defibrillator (ICD) if indicated. Discuss these options with your consulting doctor. Regards.
