If it helps she is right on all fronts. Chrones or colitis are both painful and exceedingly unpleasant! I was diagnosed at the age of 13 ( I am now 18) soooo don't rule it out entirely. stick with the drugs your given, btw remacade is the best drug so far that I know of and has worked wonders for me!
Hope this helps
Hi Steven
first of all...calm down and forget about rectal cancer!! Very unusual in someone your age.
I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs and still alive...but it is very debilitating to live with.
It could be you are not metabolising fat, hence the problem with ice cream, milk etc. If your stools are "floating" it means you are not absorbing fat, and hence the loss of weight.
I don't know why your doctor(s) are recommendintg a PETscan, really over the top, but I guess you live in the US and your doctors will prescribe anything that costs a lot of money. I would suggest you see a gastroenterologist, pronto, and have a C-reactive protein blood test and calprotectin stool assay test. Both of thest tests will identify if your Crohn's is active if out of the normal range.
The pain in your left lower abdomen could be indicative of strictures (narrowing) in either the small or lage intestines. in the right side usually means inflammation in the terminal ileum, the last part of your small bowel. An MRI scan will identify both these problems..
As far as the fat in your diet is concerned, ask them to look at your pancreas...I have recently been diagnosed with calcification of the tail in my pancreas, and need to take Creon enzymes when I eat, to metabolise what little fat I eat in my diet.
Perhaps you need to talk to your gastro about immuno-suppressants, like Infliximab (Remicade) or Humira, instead of your current meds.
If you are vomiting, I would seriously suggest you go to the ER and get some help.
Take care.
Liz.
