Extremely sick everyday - PLEASE help!!!

About a month and a half ago i became very ill & went to the E.R. where they diagnosed me with bronchitis and a viral infection. They treated me with a breathing treatment (asthma), prednisone, and an antibiotic (zithromax?, and they also gave me an IV with fluids because i was dehydrated and phenergan for my naseau which didn't work so they also gave me zofran which finally worked. I also had diarrhea several times a day. The next day i took all the medicines and was feeling just as bad so i didn't finish the medicine. Another week and a half goes by and i'm still having the intense naseau and diarrhea so i go to the E.R. again because the naseau and diarrhea is so bad and so consistent. There they xray my lungs and run blood tests and everything comes back normal so the dr . treats me with mucinex, limotil, and phenergan. My symptoms continue and i arrange a visit to my gynecologist since he could get me in the quickest, and he tells me it's a G.I. problem and to go to my regular physician. I see my regular dr. & he sends out bloodwork (including thyroid testing) and scheduled me for a radiation test, i can't remember the name but they had me eat some radioactive eggs within 5 mins and then lay on a table for 2 hrs while my digestive progression was tracked. A week from that day i returned to my dr.'s office and all the tests came back normal and my symptoms are still the same and even worsening with burping, abdominal pain, hot/cold flashes, and occassional headaches (whereas i've only had a total of 5 headaches my whole life). So next my dr. sends me for more bloodwork and tells me that if they come back normal i'll go for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. That following monday i went to nationwide children's hospital because i saw a gastro specialist there when i was a kid and was hoping to get admitted, but they sent me home after running blood tests, urine tests, a stomach xray (which showed a foreign mass which the dr. said was probably just a small stone which would cause me no problems.  So, this past thursday i went and had the tests done because everything came back normal and my dr. said i had esophagitis and that my throat and stomach were inflammed and that my stomach was soft. He took biopsies of all the infected areas and i am waiting on the results now. In the meantime I can't even function normally. Everyday i am constantly sick and i am a 21 year old healthy college soccer player and full time mom. I am a healthy person who has never even broke a bone or had a major surgery and now I can't even feel like a person because everyday i am battling with my body just to function normal, actually even half way normal.
If anyone has any advice or perhaps similar problems, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

AGE: 21
SEX: Female
SYMPTOMS:
constant nausea (nothing helps, phenergan & zofran just put me to sleep and i wake up a couple hrs later when they wear off and i'm sick again. it will wake me out of a dead sleep. after a few bites i'm sick to my stomach if by rare chance i wasn't beforehand.)
abdominal pains (was just around belly button and now is more of my general abdomen area)
belching
weight loss (15 lbs in the past month and a half - i'm normally 130 and weigh 115)
diarrhea (some days it will be several times and rarely i can go a day without any)
abdomen is sensitive - hurts to press on in areas
headaches (occasionally)

HISTORY:
Saw a stomach specialist at children's when i was around 12-16. Almost everynight i would have extreme nausea and nothing would help. The dr. never ran tests because of how miserable they are for a kid so she treated me with reglan & it got better but i would still have occasional spells. From 16 - now i have been fine with no stomach problems.

The only help problems i've had is seasonal allergies and asthma & a left knee scope.
I also had a baby 8 months ago but it was an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth.

No family history of gastro problems

I am not sure the post from rox74 is appropriate for this forum.   Can you please look into this, and perhaps delete the post?

Many thanks.

still undiagnosed...results came back and all the biopsies were normal...doing more blood tests & sending me to an allergy specialist to see if i've developed food allergies...just playing the waiting game & praying it comes sooner rather than later.

Thank you for all the tips, I'll definitely try anything to help with the nausea. In the next week or so my biopsy results should return & hopefully can get diagnosed & treated.
thank you for all your help!

Hi another Liz!
You sound as if you have Inflammatory Bowel Disease = can be either Crohn's or Ulcerative Colitis....they are very different as UC only affects the first layer of mucosa in the small intestine, Crohn's, right through 3 layers and can cause fistulas. The severe loss of weight is indicative of Crohn's, when I was diagnosed some 40 yrs ago, (still here and fighting!) I weighed all of 70 lbs.

Nutrition? I take 3 small bottles, 200 ml, some 300 calories, of Fortijuice daily - all the vitamins and minerals to survive. I tried the ghastly Ensure drinks but they made me feel nauseous. I live in England and have to get these on prescription (luckily our socialised NHS pays for them) but there must be something in the US that is similar.
Perhaps your gastro is not explaining things to you correctly, or you are not hearing..difficult to when first diagnosed and trying to get your head around an incurable disease.  You can have, as I have "pan Crohn's Colitis" - this just means the Crohn's is not only in the small intestine, but also in the large colon, hence the term "pan", meaning everywhere.

Need any further help, let me know?
take care,
Liz.

I'm 24 female and I have Ulcerative Colitis.  I'm going to see a specialist at St. Vincents in Toledo, Ohio about my problem.  My family dr. seems to think I have Ulcerative Colitis AND Chron's.  I'm not sure if you can have both, but I know the two get confused for eachother very easily.

When I have a flare up I have:
~ Lovwer left cramping, not tender but I wont be able to stand up straight.  Actually, when I push on that spot it relieves the pain a little bit.
~ Get to  feeling like I'm going to get sick with it
~Headaches
~Mucus in my stool
~Get gassy accompanied with belly cramps (like I have to go to the bathroom)

Before I changed my medicing to Pantasa from Asacal, I was having diahrrea really bad with lots of mucus and some blood.  I went to the ER 2 days ago and all they did was give me some moraphine (which didn't help) so they gave me something stronger (I cant remember the name of it). I'll let you  know what I find out on the 30th.  Maybe you have Colitis or something.

The first thing I would do is get to a good health food store. You need to start taking enzymes. This will help you digest foods properly.  All the meds your were on, antibiotic, prednisone will all give you gastric problems, and diarreha.  As it happens my son is 20, completely healthy athletic college student. He was on the floor the other night screaming in pain. We took him to the ER. He was diagnosed with inflamed colon. It can be caused from a virus or colon disease or salmonella poisoning.
He is at our doctor right now. I am very worried. However I am not sure I will have him go through the amount of tests you are going through.  I would have him look at diet, stress reduction, acupuncture and a naturopathic doctor. All of your tests are coming back normal thank God. So delving in to other possibilities like do you eat soy? are just some of the things I'd look at.
You can buy fresh ginger at the grocery store, peel off the skin, boil hot water and put pieces of the ginger right in the tea. It helps so much with nausea.  Look up pressure points, acupressure points on the body for nausea. There is one on the wrist, you press on it, it really helps me with nausea.  I hope some of this helps.  I wish you the best and please look in to alternative medicine and consider take an enzyme with each meal.

Hi There,
I am sorry you are having this problem; I am not a doctor, but I live with a person who has Crohn's Disease and she has been known to have lots of nausea and even vomit out-of-the-blue.  She did alot of belching and had gas.  Her abdomen was sensitive to touch.  She just felt lousy with burning bellyaches and stomach pains.  She too lost weight before being diagnosed with Crohn's.  See your pharmacist, they keep an over the counter medicine in the refrigerator that helps with bacteria in the stomach.  See your doctor for some pain RX; it should help with the pain until you get a diagnosis.  See a doctor for anti-diarrheal RX or try the over-the counter Immodium.  Get proactive and start researching gasterintestinal disorders.
Good Luck,
Izze
