I'm sorry for everything your going through. I've had crohns since 92'. I had surgery and since other than taking asacol daily things are fine. I can tell you that most dr's won't relate stress with aggrevating crohns, but it does affect it. Especially if your that emotional.
If the dr can't get to your small intestine it would seem there's a blockage. That's what happened with me. I finally had to go to a gastroenterologist to diagnose me with Crohns. Some of the others have emailed you about the foods you eat that's important to and excercise. Try to get involved some way in something to get your mind off of home if it's not possible to move back. Remember your children need you well. Don't settle for dr's putting it off as female problems (they did that to me to) you know your body.
I have been diagnosed with Crohns for 4 years now and it is hard. I am 20 now and when your 16 and all of a sudden you cant eat and your having trouble with your bowels and it hurts and your bleeding it sucks. I noticed that the more stress I let in in my life the more it effected my crohns and the worse I felt. Well I joined the Army about a year and a half ago but to get in I couldent have anything wrong with me so when I had my physical I lied about having IBD, the month before I left for basic training I took myself off my perscribed Imuran and just decided to see what happened. I did consult my doctor about it first and she said that if I chose to do this that it was okay with her because I was young healty and had been in remission for around a year. I went to basic and the physical aspect of it was stressful but the fact that it didnt require me to think made my stress levels go way down. I have been off of Imuran sense then and have only had one occurence of any IBD related symptoms. Really I think stress does agravate it and the more you let it agravate you the more it will. Ironicly some of my training was in San Antonio and it really was one of the things that made me better. The pace of life there is much faster than my hometown in Idaho but after adjusting to the pace I found myself enjoying what I did.
hey tracy, i know what you are going thru when i first got diagnosed my doctor send me to see an ob/gyn, long story short, i end up having a hysterectomy but my problem did not go away and as you the GI had to use a childs endoscopy to reach my small bowel and that is when they found how bad i was, is being 4 yrs since the diagnosed but for sure i know that your period makes you crohn's 10 times worse your ovaries get swollen and push your intestines and that is when you feel like dying, also stress, i don't care if the doctor says that has nothing to do with crohn's, that is a lie, everytime i get stress out my crohn's flares up really bad specially the diarrhea problems.
so anyways your are going thru a flare up because you are stress, bad periods, abd pain
all this contributes to your disease and you need to make your husband understand that your need to be comfortable with your surroundings otherwise you are going to be sick all the time and you know better the complications that this brings.
hang in there and don't give up, we understand all you going thru!!!!!!!!
kathy
Hi, I'm a guy so I have no real knowledge and can't comment on your periods being bad etc. but I do know, through reading and especially first hand experience that stress definitely makes my Crohns flair up. It seems like there's about a day or so delay between the onset of the stress and the Crohns. I've had one doctor tell me there is no relationship between the two, but many other doctors along with most of the internet tell me there is...Also, and this might be just me, but have you noticed if a change in your diet affects you? I know there are some foods that just make me sick--sometimes foods I always eat, so I have determined it's a combination of certain foods...and it always seems to be different. Almost like food allergies or something, but it's definitely my Crohn's....25 years and 3 bowel resections of experience tell me that. When stressed I avoid fatty/greasy food, hyper-sugary foods etc. I basically follow the old, outdated idea of a bland diet until things calm down.
Wow, sorry for typing so long... I hope that helped in some way !
