can crohns be missed with colonoscopy

My boy has had stomach pains since 12. Now ten yrs later, his pain is everyday, blood and white mucus in his stool, weight loss in last couple months. He has had a colonoscopy and barium upper test. Said iritable bowel. second opinion and Dr sent for his colonoscopy results and looked at them and said it was irritable bowel. After colonoscopy dr said he had iliatis then 2 weeks later said never mind he didn't. Just didn't think irritable bowel syndrome shouldn't bother you everyday

Perhaps you could try him on the low FODMAP diet.  That is very successful for people who aren't sure what exactly is wrong.  Cuts out all the foods that are likely to cause an attack.

IBS can go through flares just like crohn's or colitis. My mom suffers with IBS and she has for her entire life.
I would look into another opinion though just to be sure and then if that still comes back negative I would switch up  to a bland diet for a while. There's some natural anti-inflammatory medications you cab get at health food store and there's some more diet stuff that can help..

I hope you boy feels better soon.

Did they take any biopsies during the previous colonoscopy? Not the occasional polp, actual random samples of the colon wall? They need to do this if there is a deep suspicion of the presence of an IBD in an apparently normal individual. Just something to keep in mind if they decide to do another colonoscopy in the future.
