Bleeding when having a bowel movement is common with ulcerative colitis when you are harving a flare.  You should get in touch with your doctor so he can possibly put you on steroids and/or up your other meds to get the flare under control.  They may look at putting you on iron piills as well to ensure you don't become anemic.
