Please Help!

I just had a colonoscopy and a small bowel follow through done. Colonoscopy was normal with the exception of a polyp being removed that the dr sent away to be checked. Today I get a call that the small bowel follow through came back normal but that my biopsies were abnormal showing inflammation.

Blood work has shown I have a Vitamin B-12, Vitamin D and Potassium defiency.

Can anyone help me understand if you have normal colonoscopy results and a normal small bowel follow through, what does the biopsies results signify???

Can that mean IBD??

Hi there!

If the colonoscopy was normal and it was just a single polyp, the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis is unlikely. If the polyp biopsy was inflammatory and multiple biopsies were not done or were otherwise normal this should not be anything to worry about either. The inflammatory nature is likely to be due to residual effects of celiac or related conditions such as food intolerance or allergies to other food substances and malabsorption; which may further need to be looked into. Diffuse inflammation could also result from acute or chronic GI infections. I would suggest keeping a log book about the type of food intake and development of symptoms if any, for some time and discussing the situation and the possibilities in detail with your treating gastroenterologist. After a cause is identified, a management plan can be initiated accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

In addition, I have lost 25 lbs since December. I can't seem to eat anything but buttered noodles and ground chicken and rice. I have Celiac disease and have followed the diet for that to a tee. Blood tests for that show great. Please help!
