Blackey, Kentucky Earthquake Rattles Appalachian Mountains Near Virginia Border

Nov 10 (Reuters) - A light 4.3 magnitude earthquake rattled southeastern Kentucky on Saturday at 12:08 p.m. ET (1708 GMT), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake, at a shallow depth of 0.7 mile (1.1 km), was in the Appalachian Mountains near the Virginia border, and centered in the rural town of Blackey, the agency said.

USGS initially reported the quake as 5.3 magnitude. Earthquakes in this coal-mining region are rare.

Where I live earthquakes are common, there's lots of fault lines and gemothermal activity but in the Appalachian mountains ? Makes you wonder.
On the other hand, there is so much weird weather going on~ everywhere it seems.

We had an earthquake in my area a few years ago.  I was amazed to learn about the midwest fault lines as no one ever talks about them.  But we have them too and earthquakes can happen.  You do wonder though if we do anything to help these quakes along OH!
