Lt. Col. refusing deployment.....

So still watching Anderson Cooper.  He interviewed a Lt. Col. (a Dr. actually) in the US military who is refusing deployment (to Afganistan I believe) based on the fact that he doesn't believe Pres. Obama was born in American, therefor is not eligible to be Pres. so he doesn't actually have to take orders from him.  The Lt. Col. didn't actually do much talking, his lawyer did (he is being courtmartialed) and it all seemed fairly ridiculous.  Anderson Cooper had a copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Pres. Obama issued by the state of Hawaii.  Defense funds are being raised by a group called the American Patriots.  Are we seriously still debating this issue?  The man is the President of the US.  Surely someone higher up the food chain then this Lt. Col would have ensured the man was born in the US.  I mean, come on, seriously?

Wasn't the Adkins diet all protein &  low carb ? I dont remember...????
Like a burger no bun.....?????

Thank you I take that as a huge compliment....I have been vegetarian for 5 years. It is a big commitment  but I am very happy being meat free.....  :-)   I really dont miss it....

I have a theory about the lettuce ecoli thing.....The people who work in the lettuce fields ,where do the go to the bathroom? I have seen fields of vegis before and not a bathroom in sight....
I do not eat things I cannot cook.....I atleast will blanch stuff in boiling water....

Redmeat always has some ecoli but it is killed when you cook it properly....

Your post conjured up a memory in my mind. I was at a childhood friends home one time. They were not the cleanest people in the hood if ya know what I mean. One of their favorite sayings was "Somebody open the door! The flies have not been out all day!".  I know, dumb.  I gotta find something to keep me busy, can't ya tell! lol

I was forced to be a vegetarian while I was pregnant...couldn't stand the site of meat the whole time.  Does that sort of count?  I am an animal lover though and would starve to death before I would eat my pets.  Farm animals I am ok with though.  And I do love a pig roast!!  I agree with you specialmom, I always respect someone that actually lives their beliefs.  There is an Indian religion (East Indian) called Jane (not sure if I am getting the spelling correct).  Its one of the smaller ones.  They don't believe it killing anything.  Bugs, etc.  They are 100% vegan and don't even eat root vegetables as it kills the insects that live on them when you pull it up.  They won't wear leather.  I don't know how they do it, but do I ever respect them for it.

Uh, Stormy . . . what about the Adkins diet?  I think everything in moderation is the way to go.  I eat meat . . . I must say.  I don't relish thinking about their little souls lost to my craving. . . but I can live with it.  Domesticated animals to me are different than animals raised for food.  I can separate that out.  But more power to you Stormy!  I like people with principles even if I don't share their belief.  And you stick to your word, that is for sure.  I am a huge animal lover though, don't get me wrong.  And I agree that comparing this col to a pig is giving pork a bad name.

Pigs need mud or a water puddle to stay cool, they don't sweat. So the old addage to sweat like a pig is totally BS. They like a good bath and scrubbing in the back yard on a hot summer day. They also LOVE twinkies and beer and are very smart and can be trained like most most dogs. They taste best when they are roasted over an open pit, IMO.

I think all animals are beautiful.......Pigs are very clean when allowed to be and more intellegent than some people I know.....

I do not refer to people as Pigs or Dogs..Thats an insult to the animals....

I do agree that the Col Has opened up a can of worms that may end badly for him in the end.....We shall see.......

I'm going to agree that he wants something out of this other than what he is asking for.  He's ruined himself professionally for it.  What is his pay off?

A pig! Cute! Adorable! EW! I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder at that. As far as the Col. To me! He is still a pig a coward and a traitor. And as far as free speach, there is a time and a place. I think it does not over ride any and all other situations. I think this dude wants his 15 minutes of shame and his lawer is making a name for himself and I dont think it has anything to do with honor, patriotism or anything for that matter that is moral and right. IMO

Notice I said that? IMO

I don't recall the film but it sure sounds good. I imagine it is about a boy and his dog but I'm just guessing.

Hey, maybe you'd starve to death. Hopefully you'll never be put to the test and then we will really never know what you'd do.

Mike,
Yes I have heard those awful survival stories...I do agree that survival is a very strong instict..But so is Love and I love my dogs.....
I would eat another person before I would eat my dogs...Hungry or not they are members of my family and I would not eat mom or dad so why would I eat them.....
Have you ever seen the 1975 film "A Boy and His Dog"?

Vic,
I grew up on a farm.We had  pigs, goats and everything inbetween...We did not eat our own animals...I wish that animals raised for food were all treated well but thats just not the case.Especially larger companies like Tyson are horrible animal abusers...I will agree that on a smaller farm level that the animals are treated better.....
In Japan the Kobe cows are treated fantastic..They are brushed daily and bathed a few times a week....They even get messages( ofcourse thats to make the meat tender but they dont know that)....
I just have this thing about building a relationship and then eating the animal....It really freaks me out......

The main difference between humans and all other animals is we have free will and intellect. I don’t think we are stupid compared to the “lower” species but I also don’t think we are as smart as some of us think we are. Animal cruelty is wrong, I think if you visited a farm you would find most farmers tread their livestock with a great deal of care. There is a huge difference between killing an animal for food and killing it for the sake of just killing it.

I guess you can clearly accuse me of playing with my food, lol.

Never say never. My Dad used to tell me that I'd eat my shoes if I got hungry enough and   he was right. You'd eat you dog, your cat, your canary as well as your shoes if you were hungry enough. You've read the accounts - haven't you? Survival is a very strong instinct.

I  consider all life equal..I also am sure that we as humans are not the superior species. We are very very stupid and cruel compared to the so called lowerer species.
I will now get off my soap box......

I could never eat an animal that I developed a relationship with...I could not pet and show affection to an animal one day and eat it the next.
Thats playing with ones food is it not?lol

I think there is a bit of a difference between man and beast when it comes to eating them. When our kids raised animals intended for meat we enjoyed them both on and off the hoof, it wasn’t WHAT are we having for dinner but WHO. I would never think of eating my dogs either but the hogs and steers sure were good. I like my steak medium rare with a good marinate or rub.
