Hang him right next to all of the lawyers in DC......
You said:Also did you hear the ISR Director that was "fired", was planning on for months leaving anyway. Way to take charge Mr.President.
You are correct, his time would have been up in a month or so anyway. I also heard another one is resigning as a result as well.
You also stated: Back up a bit, these allegations are 30-40 years old. Does what you did 30 years ago define who you are today?
Actually, the guy got his start in government as a lobbiest at a time when he had his own manufacturing co, referred to in the article. He has also been investigated for ethics violations much more recently.
He is a self made millionaire I think I read, one of the richest in DC. Interesting read. Nothin like having one crook in charge of calling others crooks. imo
If what one does 30-40 years ago remains on ones rap-sheet, for all to see, then I'm going to have to say that it SHOULD be considered when it comes to how credible or incredible you are (not incredible, as in amazing. incredible, as in, NOT credible).
I got a DUI when I was 28. I'm now 41. Does it define who and what I am? No. But you can bet your a$$ that if I had to testify in court, and the opposing counsel wanted to discredit me, they'd bring it up and my testimony (or whatever I had to say) would be tossed out for reasons of "character flaws" or something like that.
Vance, I get what you're saying, and I agree that he's simply fulfilling his job duties, but you'd think the Republican/Right would do a little homework, and SEE this coming (the fact that the Left is going to try and discredit whomever does this research).
Stupid for the party to put this guy front and center. That said, find a DC politician that ISN'T a freaking crook, on either side of the political isle, and I'll buy you dinner. ALL OF THEM have rap-sheets. Some are just better at hiding theirs, than others.
Once a thief always a thief....and a weapons violator is a bad person.
Don't you 2nd amendment guys think that way?
You back up a bit - why dontcha?
Back up a bit, these allegations are 30-40 years old. Does what you did 30 years ago define who you are today?
Also he is in charge because if his position, Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. He was not told to go and do this or that, he was just performing to his job title.
Silly Republicans. Silly, stupid, idiotic Republicans.
Talk about putting a wolf in charge of the hen-house. Morons.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warming the cockles of my heart you are, dear el. :)
Sometime the Republican Party perplexes me. If ISSA is such a piece of garbage, and is KNOWN to have a rap-sheet longer than my johnson, they WHY ON EARTH allow him to be at the forefront of this Benghazi stuff, knowing full well that the left is going to tear his credibility to shreds?
Silly Republicans. Silly, stupid, idiotic Republicans.
Talk about putting a wolf in charge of the hen-house. Morons.
They'd have been better served putting someone like Mia Love in charge of this. #1, she's squeaky clean. #2, it would have given her national face-time and exposure to true DC politic'ing. #3, we all know how this is going to turn out, and it'd be a HUGE feather in her hat to be the one to bring down the culprits (which is going to happen, as SOMEONE on the Left is lying... it's just a matter of digging up the WHO).
Issa = bad choice
Love = excellent choice and a good move on the part of the Republican Party, as she's well qualified and needs party exposure
That would be preferable - I agree with said premise.
It'd be like putting Bernie Madoff in charge of digging up the truth about Fed indiscretions (if there was a Fed investigation, or something financial in nature, going on).
Maybe the Right should put someone with a SQUEAKY clean record, in charge of bringing Benghazi facts to light, so the left can't take issue with the credibility of said person, and their findings?
Just a thought.
I knew nothing about Issa's background.
Here is what I do know.
If the guy actually said what was quoted:
"...I don't recall having a gun. I really don't. I don't think I ever pulled a gun on anyone in my life."
then he is either a liar, a drunk or demented.....or maybe all three.
Can you imagine saying "I don't think I ever pulled a gun on anyone in my life"? I absolutely know with 100% certainty that I never have pulled a gun on anyone and, if I had, I'd know that with the same degree of certainty.
So if I understand, this Issa guy is trying to bring Benghazi facts to light, and his credibility is being questioned (as he's got a Kennedy'like rap-sheet).
Is that about the long & the short of it?
He is Right and leading the charge on Benghazi, trying to uncover the truth. Why would media matters do anything that was against the left? Think they are the last organization to still stand behind Obama. Even Chrissy Matthews has turned on Obama.
Also did you hear the ISR Director that was "fired", was planning on for months leaving anyway. Way to take charge Mr.President.
The walls are closing in.
I'm a little lost, or behind in the news/times.
WHO is this Issa guy, and with his rap-sheet, WHY is he front-and-center in DC???
He reminds me of a Kennedy, with a rap-sheet like that.
Is he to the Right, or the Left? Just curious.
Yes this explains a lot. Can't defend what you did/did not do attack the other party.
Bravo to mediamatters for investigating things that happened 30-40 years ago.
How does any of this matter? Did not matter what Obama was an admitted drug user right? Did not matter that the late Ted Kennedy killed a woman.
Oh the White House is so slick.

since issa is front and center right now, I wanted to find out a little bit about the guy. Did anyone else know any of this? Im stunned
Interesting enough, and it kind of explains a few things for me.

Former AC Custom Executive Claimed Issa Intimidated Him With A Gun. According to the Los Angeles Times: "One of Issa's first tasks as the new boss [of AC Custom] was to remove an executive named Jack Frantz. Issa Allegedly Used Intimidation To Fire Executive Frantz. According to the Los Angeles Times, Frantz claimed, "'He just showed [the gun] to me and said 'You know what this is?' Issa invited Frantz to hold the gun at one point and told him he had learned about guns and explosives during his military days, Frantz said. Because he was about to be fired, Frantz said he saw it as 'pure intimidation.'" [Los Angeles Times, 5/23/98, via Nexis]
Former AC Custom Bookkeeper: "It Was Pretty Terrifying." According to the Los Angeles Times: "The bookkeeper, [Karen] Brasdovich, also recalled Issa having a gun at the company that day. 'It was pretty terrifying,' she said." [Los Angeles Times, 5/23/98, via Nexis]
Issa On The Incident: "Shots Were Never Fired." The Los Angeles Times reported: "Issa said, 'Shots were never fired. If I asked Jack to leave, then I think I had every right to ask Jack to leave...I don't recall having a gun. I really don't. I don't think I ever pulled a gun on anyone in my life.'" [Los Angeles Times, 5/23/98, via Nexis, emphasis added]
The Real Issa: Auto Theft & Weapons Charges

1972: Issa Also Charged With "Carrying A Concealed Weapon." According to the San Francisco Chronicle: "Court records...show that in March 1972, one month after getting out of the Army, Issa was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and auto theft. The court file doesn't indicate the type of weapon involved." [San Francisco Chronicle, 7/2/03]
Auto Theft, Concealed Weapons Charges Were Ultimately Dropped. According to the San Francisco Chronicle: "In May 1972, a grand jury indicted Issa on a larceny charge in connection with the car theft but dropped the weapons charge. Two weeks later, a prosecutor dropped the car theft charge as well." [San Francisco Chronicle, 7/2/03]
Charges Were Dropped Despite Witness Reports. According to the Los Angeles Times, "a witness reported seeing [Darrell and William Issa] pushing the sports car down the street just before midnight, records and interviews show. But the charges were dismissed -- months before the older brother, [William], was convicted of stealing another car amid a string of offenses." [Los Angeles Times, 5/23/98, via Nexis]
Methodology
Media Matters for America searched the Factiva database for news articles from The Wall Street Journal and the Nexis database for news articles from the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, USA Today, and The Washington Post and all network and cable news programming* from ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox Broadcasting Co., Fox News, MSNBC, and NBC between November 2, 2010 and January 10, 2011 for mentions of Darrell Issa. From cable, only interviews were included -- news packages and short clips were excluded. From print, any article substantially mentioning Issa -- beyond merely reporting his new position in Congress or other brief mentions -- was included.
The original data is located here.
*ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox Broadcasting, and NBC transcripts include all news programming; Fox News and MSNBC transcripts include prime-time and select daytime interviews.
