It was taken from Waco Texas and sent as an email in 2010. According to El,
it was written by a guy named Alfred W. Evans, although it's been passed around the internet and rebranded as being written by a 21-year old female.
You can find all kinds of hateful things online.
I'm really not sure why El chose to post this here.
You'd have to ask him.
There's a homeless blind woman who I see sometimes around here. I can't pass her without sharing. It's so sad.
I am just flabbergasted by this. And whomever actually wrote this (I'm not familiar with the name), well, I hope that if he ever finds himself in a bad spot that people show more compassion then he seems to be willing. I also just get so upset at the assumption that poverty is somehow self created. That it's because people are lazy, or on drugs. And buying big screen tv's, etc. while living on welfare? If it wasn't so pathetic that people actually believed that was the norm, it would be laughable. Are there people that scam the system? Absolutely. Are there drug users on the system? Of course. These people exist in all walks of life. I'm sorry, this is just so incredibly upsetting to me, and I can assure everyone it is not the answer. Not even close. I have a much better solution...just round up all the poor people and let's just jail them...or even better, kill them off. I mean, they are just a waste of life right? Drain on society. Who needs em.
I hadn't replied to this for the very reasons you list.
It's hard for me to imagine such cold hardheartedness.
Nobody should be denied a cookie because they're on food stamps !
Everyone deserves a little joy in life.
I hate to bring this up, but wasn't there some raggedy bearded guy who was born in a barn some 2000+ years ago that many now kneel before and pray to?
Reading the original post makes me sad. There are so many poor people out there...why is is assumed this is by choice? And why would anyone want them to have less rights then someone who is well off? Just makes me sad that they would be treated like second class citizens.
Food stamps - you would want people to only eat beans and rice? So if your poor no fruits and vegetables? What about children?
You would force a woman into sterilization because she is poor? Really? I know tons of poor mothers who are far far better parents then some of the well of ones I know.
Gov't Housing - A landlord can then walk in whenever they feel like it? So, if you are poor you deserve no privacy?
I could go on, but I won't. Know what bothers me about this? It implies that if you are poor it must be a result of drug addiction, alcohol abuse, etc. etc. I suggest that you research poverty and get all the information. Sorry, this is really really upsetting to me. Why not look for ways to help people exit poverty...job creation, education programs, etc. And please do not tell me that already exists...it's not nearly enough. And no, this isn't "bleeding heart liberal". This is a person who may work in this field now, but who also knows what it's like to live it. Who knows what it's like to depend on food banks, welfare, etc. And who knows what it is like to work her butt off to get out of it. Rice and beans? Because your poor? And don't accept your money if I don't like it?
"So would a CEO not be good? "
I cannot say that a CEO could not be a good President. I can't say that a plumber could not be a good President either. I have seen good and bad CEO's and plumbers. I think the skill-set that I believe to be essential in a good President is way beyond the skill-set necessary to run a profitable corporation. It's just a much much much more complex endeavor. And to remark specifically - I think Romney would be a horrible President - a dangerous President - irrespective of how Bain Capital did - profit-wise.
Mike my question was for you. If you choose not to answer fine.
I am not looking for a CEO to just step out of the corporate world and become President. But if a former CEO who ran a successful business and had other experience would run for office then his skills on the economy would be great. But also the President has people his Cabinet, who help out with advice and information. A President don't know everything about everything. But if you have a President who is an expert in a field because of real world experience then that is a huge plus.
I think the confusion here is about the role of the President. I understand what you are saying basically about the Pres being a good manager of the economy. I agree that is important but the role encompasses so much more.
"Our country was founded on the concept of the people, not the company or corporation.
A CEO does not need to be concerned with the education, housing, and general health of the people as well as the economy.
A president does. " OH
I think OH answered that argument quite well.
rivll...give what a rest? I can't express my opinion or have a discussion with someone?
My point was not that a CEO was the answer but a person who was a CEO of succesful business if he ran the economy/budget like a business it owuld be better.
A community organizer is not a CEO nor is he a President and is in way over his head.
Some CEOs have walked away from failing companies with billions while the workers are left unemployed.
A president has to think of more than just the bottom line.
Our country was founded on the concept of the people, not the company or corporation.
A CEO does not need to be concerned with the education, housing, and general health of the people as well as the economy.
A president does.
Give it a rest, Vance. Please?
Regarding the original post, at first I was horrified upon reading it. I still am by certain parts of it. I wish it were so simple and that poor people were really the problem, but it seems to me the rich are doing a lot more thieving than the poor.
Back to the article...what I liked was requiring people to take responsibility for their lives. Maria Montessori made a tremendous impact on the lives of people living in Italian slums early in the last century. As she taught the children, she came to the community and worked, the adults were required to participate in cleaning and making order of their homes and lives. It was a gift for people in poverty and despair to learn that they could lead dignified and responsible lives as citizens. Nearly all of her students went on to get higher degrees in the Universities.
The forced permanent birth control and taking away the right to vote are two issues I cannot reconcile myself to.
So would a CEO not be good?
Really? I did not know that.
If the country economically was run like a business it would be better off. As CEO's have budgets to stick to and try not to borrow $ to operate the business and make money.
A business isn't a country Vance - in case you haven't noticed.
Yeah CEO's of companies are so funny because they know how to run a business. Because their real world rxperience is more than Obama's experience.
Nut? Ever notice how every republican is a nut and their democrat friends are innovative and responsible?
Anyhow, about the post. I could agree with a lot of it. Back in the Clinton days, he shut down a couple of "housing" area's in Las Vegas. The one area that I was familiar with was across the street from the elementary school that my mom taught 1st grade at. 2-3 times a week, the school was in "lock down" because of another drug related shooting in the project. Drug deals, right out in plain view of everyone were as common as sunrise. Groups of teen drop outs drinking 40oz'ers and taunting the elementary school kids as they walked to and from school.....
Clinton was at the wheel when he called for reform, and that place got shut down. If you were able to work, you went to work or you lost your housing.... so few actually went back to work that they had to shut down that row of housing. Don't know where they were displaced too, but the above mentioned system would have worked well for them.
I don't know about him having a sense of humor but I thought the guy was truly hilarious.
I liked Cain for one thing~ his sense of humor.
Ahhhh... didn't even notice the link. I looked for the original posting in the Waco Tribune Herald, but couldn't find it.
Teko's comment makes more sense now.
Cain is not a nut, but I bet she thought it was Cain because the link is hermancainforums.com
What does Herman Cain have to do with this?
It was written by a guy named Alfred W. Evans, although it's been passed around the internet and rebranded as being written by a 21-year old female.
herman cain? That guy is a nut.
