Evil

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/06/18/police-respond-to-shooting-at-sc-church/

I am waiting for the first news program or political person to connect this guy to the Tea Party or to make a statement about restricting guns. This has nothing to do with that, this is evil pure and simple.

This man went into the church, prayed for an hour with these people and then started to shoot. Please no one talk about gun control or anything like that because if we had no guns then he would have used other methods, this is evil.

I don't think it really matters if it was a "hate crime".

When we stop with labels we begin to grow.

Terrorism is a hate crime too.  I agree that this should be deemed a terrorist act/hate crime both!

Now the FBI director says this wasn't an act of terrorism because he says it wasn't political, it was a hate crime !
I think it's both a hate crime and domestic terrorism. How can racial hatred not be considered political ???

One thing you can say about racists:
They're universally stupid.

We've got gun control.  I know I have to jump through legal hoops in order to purchase a gun.  But, pertaining to this specific story, this guy could far more easily obtain a gun from the streets than he can ****'s Sporting Goods.  I'm open to suggestions about curbing that, as long as it wouldn't interfere with my being able to purchase guns from a private owner..

Doesn't Mexico have strict gun laws, I believe they do, however gun violence and the murder rate is through the roof, yep solid proof gun control works (not)

I read this morning that a friend of the shooter's had said the shooter was upset because he thought black people were taking over the world and he thought something needed to be done about it...

I know Brice.  I read that.  But that is different than the actual bomb being sold in my opinion.  Guns can be assembled as well.  My dad builds guns as a hobby.  I don't thin that is an argument for not having any gun control.  In my opinion any way.

Bomb making supplies are easily attainable at your local Home Depot or Lowes.

Is incompliance a word?  Hm. NON compliance works better.  :>)

Not really Vance, in my opinion.  If I choose to consume fatty foods, I harm myself.  I am not harming others.  So, I am not sure I see what correlation you are making.

Well, people can build guns as well with components.

Having mental health issues would be a risk factor for erratic behavior.  Many antidepressants have suicidal ideation associated with it.  Certainly, not all would ever commit a crime.  But that subgroup of people deserve extra scrutiny.  Denial of being able to buy guns would make sense if someone has a history of medication incompliance and were a paranoid schizophrenic, for example.  Would it not?  But the issue is, that person that is a risk to society and himself perhaps has access to guns through another means like his parents.  so, in my mind, I'm fine with limiting guns altogether for everyone.

I've really changed my viewpoint on this in the past year of so.  I come from a family of gun toting peeps.  NEVER just in general.  I still am NOT okay with Joe Shmo and his gun at Krogers.  But my dad is a serious hunter and has a large gun collection.  I've shot guns often myself as I've said here before, my dad had no sons so he took me along to the range and hunting.

But I really feel like limiting access to guns for the public is the right step to take.  That's not taking them completely away (other than certain types of guns) but limiting them and ratcheting up the security steps involved in screening ownership.

Just my opinion and I know I am the ONLY one here that feels this way.  Which is okay.  I really do respect everyone else's opinion on this.

I understand what you are saying but can we not make that same statement about fats in food? Alcohol? Cars? All are easy to get but kill more than guns every year. Just using that as an example as we have to walk a slippery slope because if it applies to one thing why can't it apply to more?

Bombs are not sold at sporting goods stores but the components are sold at Home Depot and other stores like that.

I think we are probably on the same page here.  I just want to reiterate that not all mentally ill people are capable of this type of madness.  Not all people on prescription drugs are capable of this type of madness.

Mental illness runs the gamut from people who are perpetually sad/lost to people who do things like this and worse.

How do we go about keeping guns out of people like this kids hands?  Taking guns from people like you or I surely isn't the answer.

I know.  I am in the minority here.  I'm for gun control all the way around and if it ever was put to me to vote on it, I'd vote that way.  it's not a top priority for me in any way shape or form.  I wouldn't vote for or against a candidate on this matter---  but my opinion is that gun ownership should not be as easy as it is (no matter how difficult one thinks it is now, it could stand to be MORE difficult in  my opinion) and that not every type of gun should be sold to the public.

I don't think guns are responsible, the person using it is. But since they can't be trusted, guns have to be limited.

And sure, bombs can be built. But bombs aren't sold at ****'s sporting goods.

I have heard 3 different stories about the gun he used.
1. It was a gift from his parents and he had it all the time.
2. Gift from parents but they never let him take it.
3. They gave him $ that was used to buy the gun.

But anyway he was on medication that has been known to cause violent outbursts. I think you have several contributing factors that led to this. Common thread between most mass shooters...mental status/prescription drugs.

Making a bomb isn't difficult.  If that idiot in Boston can build one, anyone can.

Hate crime/attack on religion... It happened in a church.  Seems reasonable that this could be seen as an attack on religion,  The a-hole said he wanted to kill black people, so I'm not so sure why there need to be any investigation.  Case closed.... it was a hate crime enacted upon parishioners.

Easy to obtain guns?  Nothing easier than having one given as a gift.  This kids dad gave him the gun for a birthday present, correct?  I've been given guns as gifts.... I'm not running around shooting up churches or killing people.  There must be a difference....  Sanity v.s. Insanity.  Lets look there.

He killed 9 people, so what if it was a hate crime, it is not going to get him anymore time. But what if this was a hate crime against religion would the same investigation be launched? Doubt it.
This admin. is and always has been about race. Do you remember these racial issues under Bush or Clinton? Nope.

Forgot to mention that Loretta Lynch is "launching an investigation" to determine if this was hate crime... come on - can't she spend taxpayer $$$$ on something more beneficial?  The shooter said he wanted to kill black people... isn't that enough to establish a hate crime?

This was a horrific loss of 9 lives and all they can do is blame guns?  Really?  I'll pray for them all... they need it. But most of all, I'll pray for the families of those who lost their lives in that church last night... They went there to study the Bible, not to die.

This guy sat in the church for over an hour and when he stood up and started shooting, he said he was there to shoot black people... it had nothing to do with guns... it had only to do with the fact that he was there to shoot black people... it was horrific hate crime from the word go and I don't think there's much that could have stopped it because, as RGlass says it's not that hard to make a bomb, so if you take away the gun, there are other ways to accomplish the same thing, and maybe more people would have been hurt with a bomb...

It's not about guns; it's about people, like Obama, Sharpton, Jackson, Holder, and now, Loretta Lynch, that are preaching racism and they're egging it on... They need to just sit down and shut up...

Can't really go into detale but we were making bombswhen I was a kid (and it was legal) . It's not as hard as you would think.

Well, I'm not sure about that to be honest Glass.  Building an explosive device takes a bit of skill.  Firing a gun not so much.  I don't blame the gun for the deaths, don't get me wrong.  The shooter is to blame.  But I have no problem keeping guns out of an evil persons hands.  And since we don't know who is evil, making guns harder to get in general is fine by me.  That is just my opinion on it.  So, I know others feel differently and that is their right to feel as they do.  (obviously).

I agree that Obama has been a difficult president to stand behind.  I don't think it is un American to not care for a president.  We live in a free country where it is okay to feel a president is just so so (at best) and to say so.  Until the government supports Everyone, we are free to have opinions about our leaders.
