Westboro protesters face jeers and slashed tires

McALESTER - Members of a Kansas church that protests at military funerals may have found themselves in the wrong town Saturday.

Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.

To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police.

The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called. A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to Walmart for repairs.

Even before the protesters discovered their damaged tires, they faced off with a massive crowd of jeering and taunting counterprotesters at Third Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks from the First Baptist Church, where the soldier's funeral was held.

Miller estimated that crowd to number nearly 1,000 people, and they not only drowned out the Westboro protesters with jeers, but with raucous chants of "USA, USA."

A few motorcyclists interspersed among the crowd also revved up their engines to muffle the protests.

More than two dozen law-enforcement officers - state troopers, sheriff's deputies and city police - formed a security cordon around the Westboro protesters.

"We're here to protect everyone," Miller said.

Westboro members picket military funerals across the country, spreading their message that "God hates America" because it tolerates homosexuality.

Gee, no one would help fix their tires after they came into their town to spew their hatred? Gosh, I can't imagine why not!

Ugh, these people tick me off. They've come to my city more than once. We go to a large church, the 2nd largest church in the city. So of course they had to come picket the 3 largest churches in the city, which included us! Lucky us!
They could not get too close to the church or block the entrances or parking lot but they did stand alongside the road with their picket signs shouting as we drove past them to go to church. It shook me up a little bit when I saw the hatred on their faces and heard their shouting. What ignorance. They knew nothing about our church yet chose it because it was so large. They claim to speak for God but God is not a God of hate but love. They need to read their bible a little closer!
Here are three different verses about how God feels about "false prophets" who claim to speak for Him.

"Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed. "
Jeremiah 14:14-15

"I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; "
Jeremiah 23:25-26

"Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. "
Jeremiah 23:31-32

Over and over He says He did not send these prophets that lie and claim to speak in His name. These people will be held accountable for every word that comes out of their mouths and for the way they have treated people. I would not want to be in their shoes on Judgement Day because I do not think God is pleased with them. On the contrary, I believe God is against them and this type of hateful preaching. They are damaging the name of Christianity and turning people away and they will be held accountable for it.

Do you remember back when that marine was being laid to rest and this group was protesting at his funeral? This is the same group, best known for "protesting" the funerals of U.S. soldiers with signs saying "God hates fags" and "God hates America," “Pray for Dead Children,” “Your Pastor Is a *****,”

They protest whatever they deem to be sins of society.

I can't figure out what the heck they are even protesting.  I'm glad no one would help them though...maybe it will make them think a little bit.  Why would anyone want to cause even more pain at the funeral of a fallen soldier.  Is is just a church of sickos?

One of these protests is going to go real bad one of these days.  These people have nothing better to do than protest at a funeral?  What really are they trying to gain?  Dont they know that they are gaining nothing?

I hope I run into these protesters one day.  I'd love to have a discussion with any one of these sheeple!  Since when does being an insincere douche nozzle get you into heaven?  Perhaps I could accomodate them on their journey....not that I'd committ and act of violence, but perhaps I could talk them into taking nice long walks at sunset, on a very short pier in shark infested waters.

I am glad to see the town stand up for one of its own. Yes Indeed! It restores my hope in humanity!
