That is very interesting! So can this thing break completely you think? Where it split? I wonder what would happen if it did?
Interesting thing about this earthquake was that its epicenter was in Elgin. Usually, an earthquake that Chicago feels will be from the New Madrid fault or the Wabash fault.
Historically -- late pre-cambrian (900 million years ago) the continent started to split apart in what is today far southern Illinois. The split never completed, but giant rift valleys formed. Later they eroded away or filled with the passing ages. But the faults remain, as sort of a natural way for the continent to ease tension.
There was a 5+ earthquake just a few years ago from that fault system, and there was also a 7-8 magnitude earthquake in St Louis in the early 19th century.
LOL! It does make one think what in the world is going on tho. They seem to be everywhere lately. I sure hope we dont get one here!
Chicago needs a little rattle every so often. Shake the gangs up a bit. lol
I know! I know! Big Whoop right! lol
