Oh, Amanda! I am replacing the cranberries with the giblets from the turkey and this is hoping all turns out well as a result. Pray!
Amanda, I am fixing your dressing, minus the cranberrys (mole hates cranberries), and April I am fixing your cranberry recipe, cause all the rest of us loves cranberries! Thanks guys!
Happy thanks giving to all,we don't have thanksgiving in Australia so our next celebration is Christmas.
Then our big one is Australia Day on January 26th.
Oh oh oh. I am going to go through the rolladex in my head and post in a bit! I love to cook, try new things, make the old favorites. One of my "things".
However (sigh), I've brought a green bean casserole to Thanksgiving (among other things) every year to the Thanksgiving family feast since I was an adult with my own apartment (a LONG time ago). Basic recipe and quite frankly, I can eat the whole thing myself. I was getting the list of what I should bring and she said "you are in charge of a green vegitable and it does NOT have to be green beans. . ." Exactly what is she trying to say? LOL I mean . . . it's tradition. I'm bringing my darn green bean casserole and I'll make something else as well------------- but 20 something years now I've made my little casserole and I'm NOT stopping now!!!
anyways, I'll be back. And I'll probably try any recipes posted because recipes from friends are always the best!
Oh yes, I always cook it in the bird, but if there is too much I wrap the rest in tinfoil and put it in the oven.
No real measurements sorry...I just kind of do a dash of this and a bunch of that. Really whatever you like. I like mine savory, so I tend to use a fair amount. I skip the salt too...doesn't need it I don't think.
I love cranberries, and my stuffing just isnt that good so I might have to try that one. Do you cook it in the bird? And how much of the seasonings do you use?
I love to make homemade cranberry sauce! It's so easy too.
Just take one bag of cranberries, rinse them off in a colender.
2 oranges, incuding the peel (or you can just put the peel of one orange, depending on how "orangy" you want it)
2 cups of sugar (more or less, depending on how sweet you want it)
Little by little add the oranges, peel and cranberries in your blender and blend till all is smooth.
Pour into dish and add sugar. Voila! There it is!
And the great thing is you can make this up to a week before because it actually tastes better when it's been sitting for awhile.
It does need to be refrigerated, though.
Enjoy!
Well, not to brag, but my stuffing is almost always a hit. It's easy too. Rip up your bread, then I cut up apples and add cranberries, seasonings (whatever you like..I usually use poultry seasoning, sage, basil, garlic powder.) Add your chopped onion. For liquid, I use 1/2 melted butter, 1/2 orange juice and away you go. The orange juice gives a really nice flavor and makes it a tad bit healthier. Anyway, I usually have a crowd for Thanksgiving (13 this year) and it always gets eaten up right away.
Another good recipe is candied yams. Instead of baking the yams in brown sugar and butter, I use brandy. It gives them a nice flavor and a bit healthier (the alcohol cooks off, so safe for little ones too).
Back at ya friend, you are always invited. So? Share one that you have for your thanksgiving celebration? I am always looking for good stuffing ideas! Bring It!
Just wanted to comment...Happy Thanksgiving to my US friends...ours was last month so next holiday for us is Christmas. I am very open to invites for Turkey though...lol. My favorite food!!
