ARGH My tooth is killing me

Can anyone out there tell me if it's normal for a Dentist to drag out a root canal for 6 -7 weeks??
I had a bad tooth ache, went to a new dentist ( I had none) and paid $1,400 up front for  root canal on Jan 30th. The guy said he didn't have time to finish, but he "killed the nerve" and I could go along on my vacation to the Park City ski resorts. I left that tues Feb 5th, and all but died on that plane. When I got back, he scheduled me for the 26th of Feb, and I went again (I had prepaid, but was expected to pay another 300 for the build-up) He again started the procedure and two hours into it said he did not have enough time to finish it. I was upset because it was the 2nd time. His newbie assistant put in the temp filling and he re-scheduled me for the 10th of March. Two days later that temp filling fell out , and I could see all 4 canals exposed in my mirror. I panicked and went to my nephew's dentist to let her repack & temp the filling. It didnt hurt that day, now it hurts bad. I think the first dentist is a bum and I will now go to this new dentist and pay another $1200 for a root canal and build-up. What should I do?? I don't trust that other dentist at all, my tooth is killing me and I'm trying to make it unitl wednesday to go to this new dentist. I am taking antiboitics in case bacteria got in those exposed canals after the filling fell out.

it seems that first dentist collects the money prior to the patient getting in the chair, then doesnt finish because he's got another pre-paid waiting, he's over scheduled, chasing the money. His office is not clean either, and his assistants are newbies and change. HELP please advise for my pain, and should I bill him for the new debtists root canal proceedure?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I think foremost is that you have confidence in whomever you go see. If you are not comfortable trust your feelings and seek out another dentist which is what you seemed to have done.As far as the fee is concerned I would definitely discuss it with the first dentist. At this point I would think that over the counter analgesics(Advil,Tylenol etc.)would be your best bet until your next visit. Stay off the tooth as much as possible.
