Abcess Tooth and Swelling

DEC.31st; I find an abcessed tooth in front of a tooth that was crowned a few months ago.  My abscess is bulged inside my jaw and I cannot chew on this side.  I took 2-Aleve, brushed, flossed and gargled well with warm salt water after meals.

JAN.1st; I visited Doctor's Care and they prescribed KEFLEX 500mg 1/12hrs and ULTRAM 50mg 1-2/4-6hrs.  My jaw is sore on top and bottom on the right side, since the bulge has expanded along the jawline.

JAN.2nd; my mouth and throat is sore and the flap under my tongue looks like a miniature tongue.  My ears itch.  I feel faint and feel dampness on my face. I lay down and watch tv until I fell asleep for a few hours.

I called my doctor and told her nurse that my dentist is not due back into the office until Jan.3rd.  I describe my ailments and she says that I should see my dentist ASAP, unless I become distressed from breathing or swallowing then I should visit the ER.

I feel that my doctor should have seen me, documented my distortion and ran some bloodwork.  I have insurance.  I'm beside myself to why a physician wouldn't want to at least look at this just because this is a dental issue.  What if I have blood poisoning or something serious?  If so, will another day make much difference?  Who knows, they can't or won't investigate!

Swishing with warm salt water is a great idea.  Along with Motrin every four as needed.  This will help keep the inflammation down.  Try not to chew on that side (I'm sure you can't) to keep from further inflammation.   Best of luck!

The evening of JAN.2nd, the swelling started to disperse, and by the time I saw the dentist Thurs morn (JAN 3rd) the swelling was a bubble beside, and wider than, the tooth.  After an xray and after the next time I brushed my teeth, as I was inspecting it, I saw it ooze.  So, in increments, I pressed it nearly flat while rinsing my mouth with warm salt water.

JAN 4th; I didn't take an pain meds and I have a medium dull ache that is troublesome but I don't like taking pills if I don't have to.  I may take some later if I cannot concentrate.  About 3-4 inches of my jaw-line is sore, but my ear has stopped itching.

I forgot to mention that on Mon (DEC 31st) I had my husband get me some vitamins and echinacea, and I also have been taking Honey & Lemon tea with vitamins A and C.  I'll continue taking my antibiotics, and eat some yogurt to sidestep a woman's yeast issue when taking antibiotics.

I have an appt for Tues (JAN 8th) for a root canal if the tooth is salvageable.  I'll keep it clean while I pray that it's saved. ~ Rebecca

I wouldn't take the chance on waiting.  It sounds as if you are having some sort of reaction.   Go to the ER or your DRs office.   I had a reaction  to Keflex and it was bad - sounds alot like the ways yours has started.  It quickly changed on me and I almost went into anaphylaxis.  Be Careful!
