Acyclovir for canker sores?

I had an bad outbreak on my tongue that was very painful leaving me unable to talk or eat anything for about a week....this started happening after i let a friends baby drink off my water bottle and afterwards i drunk off it without cleaning it....when i went to my doctor she checked my mouth and said she was going provide me with antibiotics.....one day i went to go check the pills she gave me because i was on birth control and wanted to know if it would affect it so i looked up the name acyclovir to find out it was for the herpes simplex virus....i freaked out and called and asked them why they gave me a pill for herpes if i didn't have that and the nurse on the phone told me that its for more than one thing and that its best not to google things cause it give me false indications.....it cleared up after a week but til this day i wonder why she gave me acyclovir if canker sores isn't the hpv virus....i never had a outbreak on my lips or mouth and i get maybe one or two canker sores time to time on the side of my tongue where my teeth are on the top of my tongue.....but that question still crosses my mind why was i provided acyclovir for canker sores?

Hi doctors are allowed to prescribe medication for off label use.
I think my son was given this when he had shingles though I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong

Does the baby have HPV?

It could just be a coincidence, since you have had these in the past.

If you are concerned I would get tested, it is an easy test

I thought HPV was just on lips.

Good luck to  you
