Best way to take care of your teeth?

I had a miserable few weeks dealing with having a redo on a root canal and crown placed on the tooth. I'm a little obsessed now with taking care of my teeth and would like some information on the best way to preserve my natural teeth. Is there a regimen that I should follow other than brushing after every meal? There are so many products on the market that it can be confusing. What kind of rinses, gargles, fluorides are best, and when should they be used? Currently I floss every day and use a fluoride based toothpaste.

Thanks!

I have used a SonicCare ultrasonic toothbrush for 10 years and would not use anything else.  It just plain cleans better.  Probably the best investment you will ever make with your mouth.

Brushing and flossing alone does wonders, but if you want a mouthwash, avoid any with alcohol.  Listerine even has a new mouthwash without alcohol because of what we are learning.  ACT is a very good mouthwash as well.

As long as it has fluoride, toothpaste is toothpaste, just find something you like using.

If you want to get really into it:
-Avoid soda and sports drinks, high sugar and acid content are horrible for teeth
-After ANY time you eat or drink (and you can't brush), either rinse your mouth a couple of times with water, or chew sugarless gum
-Speaking of gum, Xylitol (a specific type of sugar) gum actually slows bacteria growth, which makes it the best type of "sugarless" gum, it is usually well marked on the package
