Can you have a cavity & need a root canal on the same tooth?

I was told I need to do a root canal on a tooth that already had a root canal done 2-3 years ago. Is it possible to have a cavity and need a root canal on a tooth that already had a root canal done? Can an endodontist take care of the cavity during the root canal or do I need to do two separate procedures one with a general dentist for the cavity and one with the endodontist for the root canal?

Hi,
From what I know after a root canal the tooth is dead and never heard of getting a cavity on a dead tooth.
I would think you would have to pull the tooth.

Yes, you do need to see endodontist and a restorative dentist in order to get the dental treatment done.
