Concerned

I do not want to be overconcerned, however the more I have researched I can't help but to be. I have had a tooth abcess for some time and treated it periodically with antibiotics. The strange thing is only swelling in my jaw twice, which was horrific, I am now having the sensation of fluid in my ears, head , neck and shoulders which is consistantly painful and is followed by other symptoms such as the feeling of nausea , loss of smell, my hearing is muffled and my taste is out of wack....had orriginally planned to have tooth removed however it broke off in the back of my mouth which has caused the need for oral surgeon and i do not have insurance so i am stuck with the tooth and now these problems....what should i do or what could this be....I am concerned i could have  meningits.....could use any opinions or advice given...

Hi again,
Once there is swelling, the best thing you can do until you get that tooth out is to sleep with your head slightly elevated.  That will help with the morning swelling esp.  You can rinse with warm salt water, too.  1/4 tsp in 8oz of warm water and rinse 5 to 6 times a day.  But, the swelling won't go away until that tooth is gone.

Once the infection has started to work on the bone around the tooth antibiotics won't do the trick until the offending tooth with its ever present infection is gone.  Once you get it out they can start to work on any residual infection present but with the tooth still there so is the origin of that infection.

Having the tooth out should be a fairly simple procedure.  Once the bone around the tooth is infected the tooth is usually loose and removal is pretty straight forward and out it comes with minimal effort.

Good luck and do find someone that can help you sooner rather than later.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

thank you so much!! I will start immediately and find "someone"...what do you think they can do to get all of this fluid out that is floating side to side in face and neck...I can literally feel it move under my scalp as I lye down , tilt my head , etc...antibiotics is not clearing it completly as it did when i was first placed on them...?

Hi,
Oh, geez.  You really have to get to a dentist and see about getting that tooth removed.  Your symptoms are not going to go away until the offending tooth is removed.  The bone starts to dissolve around it and that lets saliva and secretions that cause infection to stay up under the gumline.  It won't go away until that tooth is out and the bone will dissolve and cause infection further and further along via the periodontal ligament affecting your other teeth.

PLEASE go to a dentist and see if he can remove it for you or bite the bullet and find an OS to help you.  There are credit companies that have low interest or no interest loans for emergency dental and medical work.

IMO your problems won't go away and may become much worse until you do something about that tooth.  Please don't put it off.

My very best to you,
Gellia
